The North East sensation Maximo Park will headline Saturday night at Galtres Festival (York) 2013, occupying the prestigious slot given to The Charlatans, The Lightning Seeds and ASH in recent years.

This is first of several headliner announcements for the North Yorkshire festival which takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Last year more than 100 acts included Adam Ant, Ocean Colour Scene, The Buzzcocks, Seth Lakeman, and The Guillemots.

"We're all very excited at festival HQ to be announcing Maximo Park," said festival director James Houston. "Plans for our programme and our new venue are progressing at a rapid pace and it's great to see it all coming together - it's guaranteed to be yet another very fine festival."

It’s been just seven years since Maximo Park released their critically acclaimed and Mercury Prize nominated debut album 'A Certain Trigger', which shot up the UK charts with their breakthrough single ‘Apply Some Pressure’. Their recently released and brilliant fourth album The National Health was recorded with the legendary Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Patti Smith) and has put them back at the top of the UK festival scene.

Last year's Galtres, hailed "nigh on perfect" by The Guardian, received no less than six UK Festival Award nominations. Organisers recognise that they have a tough job ahead of them to exceed last year's triumph, but are confident that the programme will be stronger than ever.
