Galtres Parklands Festival 2013 Overview
Nine years old, Galtres Parklands Festival is one of the best family festivals in the country. Combining five stages of music and cabaret, more than 150 fine beers (and ciders) virtually all sourced from Yorkshire (from Black Sheep Ale to Ampleforth Abbey Cider), excellent local produce catering (from Whitby Scampi to Yorkshire Puds), loads for kids to do from film making to music workshops, and all set in a beautiful rural setting near the Vale of York.
Music ranges from top chart-topping bands to local emerging talent, ranging from pop and acoustic to jazz, blues and ska. Comedy, theatre and offbeat performances at the night cabaret, films, family camping and clean loos too! They are moving to a new location in the area for 2013 - more details soon.

Galtres Parklands Festival 2013 Event Info
Galtres is much more than great music, beers and food. Once again this year's Galtres Festival of Fun will be packed with amazing things to do for families and young people. This year's activities will include all sorts of creative crafts, storytelling, film-making and fun.
Galtres festival has announced the latest new attractions for the 2013 event to complement their new location!
BUCKING BRONCO RODEO!
Back again after the bucking bronco's runaway success last year, they're delighted to welcome them back for 2013. Almost as much fun to watch as to do, they look forward to seeing how long you can stay on ... especially after a few pints of Ampleforth Cider!
Find the rodeo in the Oxman arena near the sound desk.
DESERT PIRATE CAMEL RACING
Camel racing on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Yes, real camels, ridden by desert pirates!
Camel racing is a huge sport in the Middle East and is becoming increasingly popular in the West. Joseph's Amazing Camels - who operate the highest standards of animal welfare, have been thrilling audiences around Britain since 2000, and have raced at Duncombe Park once before. From Cheltenham Racecourse to the Royal Cornwall Show to the Ballymena Steam Rally, these camels have been there and done that.
The camels and the jockeys, specially trained, will wear fantastically colourful Arabian desert pirate outfits, to fit in with our Pirates and Crocodiles family theme. As well as racing, the camels will be on display all day so you can meet these splendid animals and learn more about them.
The camels will race down the arena - the louder the cheering, the faster they go!
New to Galtres this year, they're delighted to offer Vintage Dodgems, run by some very nice people. Now that's going to be a lot of fun. Just 2 vouchers per car (that's 1 voucher each person- £1.75).
The origins of the Dodgem track is difficult to trace with various claims to be first, and a multitude of patents in existence, though the crux seems to be the actual development of the Dodgem as we know it - a controllable 'bumper car' and electrical pick-up to the roof 'nets'.
Dodgems had been around for a few years abroad before they were introduced to Britain in 1928 by Messrs Lusse Brothers. Their popularity was soon established, with a number of well-known British firms, including Orton and Spooner, Robert Lakin and Lang Wheels building tracks.
The Galtres Parklands Festival track is a 1940s Supercar Dodgem Track and approximately 60 ft x 40ft. The current set of 16 Dodgems in use are the French-built Reverchon 'auto-scooter cars', circa 1984.
ECOPLAY WATER WALKERS
Ecoplay Water Walkers are loads of fun and suitable for kids, teenagers and brave adults. They had them at Galtres 2011 and are excited to have them back.
Imagine a human-sized hamster ball floating on water. Roll around protected in your ball, lay back and relax with the cool water beneath you on a warm day, or attempt to stand and run about. Standing is fairly easy for the little ones but harder for grown-ups.
In fact they challenge any adult to remain upright for 20 seconds, and if you manage it you can have your money back! You'll find the Water Walkers up near the Pirate Ship stage, by the copse.
KING'S TRADITIONAL FAIR
Vintage Fairground Rides the children will love - from Huby's Brian King.
It is thought that the funfair originated in Roman times, though this is not a certainty. What is documented is that during the Middle Ages in Europe, there were chartered fairs. These were essentially trade shows that took place roughly between 1200 and 1400. They were gatherings of international traders and their wares, and subsequently included entertainers. It is likely that funfairs are the descendants of chartered fairs.
By the eighteenth century in England, the entertainment portion of the chartered fair had become a spin off known as the funfair, and provided amusement for communities as its bands of unusual humans and wild animals, jugglers, acrobats, puppet shows, peep shows and other acts travelled about the country. Funfairs introduced the first fairground rides around this time.
Their very own Silent Disco! PashTent 23.00 - 02.00 every night. Top DJs - top tunes.
