Stockton Calling is celebrating its fifth year with the announcement of a new stage and that Teesside’s prodigal sons Young Rebel Set will headline the event’s biggest stage at ARC.
After three consecutive sell outs, and an ever increasing venue count, the festival organisers are delighted to confirm that the H.M Bark Endeavour, located on Stockton’s Riverside, will be added to this year’s event taking place on Saturday 19th April.
Organiser, and manager of KU and Storytellers, Jimmy Beck commented; “Each year we’ve introduced additional stages to meet demand for tickets. This year the HM Bark Endeavour brings something completely different to the table.”
The venue-spanning event has expanded year on year since its 2010 conception; starting with ARC, KU and The Georgian Theatre, it has since gone on to draw in The Sun Inn, The Vault, The Storytellers and The Green Room, creating a day of musical enrichment throughout Stockton Town Centre.
Co-organiser Chris Cobain, of Tees Music Alliance, continued, “We have been looking for interesting spaces to bring in to the event and when the Endeavour started hosting gigs last year we knew it would be the perfect addition.”
The HM Bark Endeavour is the only full-size replica of the world-renowned Captain James Cook in the Northern Hemisphere, and is one of only two such vessels in the world.
Headlining the festivals biggest stage at ARC this year will be Young Rebel Set, who ended 2013 with a sell out show at Middlesbrough Town Hall.
Having spent 2013 touring the UK and Europe, to sell out audiences, with the anthem laden sophomore release ‘Crocodile’ the sextet have seen their steady rise to prominence catapult.
Released through Ignition Records, the home of Noel Gallagher, Primal Scream, Stereophonics and Oasis, Crocodile successfully bridges indie, blue-collar rock & gritty white boy soul.
The Stockton five piece recorded the album in Glasgow at Chem19 Studios with producer (and former Delgado’s drummer) Paul Savage, best known for his work with Mogwai, The Phantom Band & Arab Strap.
Young Rebel Set have toured relentlessly, becoming a formidable live act with a considerable following in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and at home in the UK which has helped them amass over two million Youtube views.
Annabel Turpin, Chief Executive of ARC commented “As we started planning our fifth year of Stockton Calling we were looking for a very special headline act, someone who encapsulates what the event is all about and we all feel we have definitely found that with Young Rebel Set.”
“They’ve had incredible success across Europe and are consistently electric live, the fact that they are from Stockton just adds that little something extra.”
Also confirmed for the full day music feast is Birmingham indie pop act Superfood, who are set to play KU. The charming four piece have been tipped as must watch act for 2014 after impressing on the live circuit in 2013. They’re supporting fellow Brummie’s Peace on a full UK Tour in the spring, stretching their legs at Stockton Calling before they head off.
The Georgian Theatre has added the powerhouse psychedelia London 6-piece Lola Colt to their line up, which will be headlined by the sample-fuelled Public Service Broadcasting. The band impressed at Liverpool Psych Fest in 2013 with their blues fuelled Jefferson Airplane style sounds.
Tickets for the event are on sale now and are £15 in advance. The last three years have sold out so advanced booking is highly recommended.
