Today Øya festival is thrilled to announce the event’s first acts for 2014 as Queens of the Stone Age, who will appear as headliners on Weds 6th August. This is the first time QOTSA have played the festival and marks a triumphant booking.

In addition, two of Scandanavia’s finest exports Robyn and Röyksopp will perform together as headliners on Friday 8th August in a very special, rare one off performance billed as Röyksopp & Robyn Do it Again 2014. The “Röyksopp & Robyn Do It Again Tour 2014” show will head across Europe, North America and points beyond, stopping at carefully selected venues around the world.  Robyn and Röyksopp have a long history of working and performing together - they collaborated on 2009’s “The Girl and The Robot” (from Röyksopp’s album Junior) and again on 2010’s “None of Dem” (from Robyn’s album Body Talk).  Robyn was a surprise guest on one song when Röyksopp headlined Øya in 2009, since then she has been an occasional guest, but mainly for one song only.  This forthcoming performance will be a collaboration for the whole show and is something that has taken years of planning - Øya is elated to play host to such an exciting show. Röyksopp and Robyn are currently working together in the studio.

Other acts included the first announcement range from hip-hop rising star Joey bada$$ to Syria’s Omar Souleyman to Elephant Six Collective’s Neutral Milk hotel.

2014 marks the start of a new era for Øya Festival, railroad construction is due to take place at the festival site therefore for its sixteenth year, Øya moves to a stunning new site called Tøyenparken. Tøyenparken is even more special than the original site and is situated between three Oslo landmarks; the international Munch museum, the beautiful botanical gardens and Oslo's huge outdoor amphitheatre park - which includes an outdoor swimming pool, a football field and picturesque walking paths.  Since the festival had no choice but to move, it has gained permission to do something very special; Øya will close the main street between all three areas and join the two parks to become one huge area.  Despite the new site being bigger than its predecessor, Øya will sell the same amount of tickets allowing for more space and a comfortable experience.  Promoter Claes Olsen says:

"Øya is about being an urban park festival, more than a dirty field. We got into this because of our love for music, not love for mud and running a camping site.  With the new site, three of the outdoor stages will be amphi theaters which will be amazing."

The city centre is still only a short walk from the festival, which creates an exciting rendezvous between nature and culture and between the outdoor festival experience during the day and intimate club shows at night. Visitors to the city can use airb&b for cheap accommodation or book hotels such as the stylish and inexpensive comfort inn. Tickets are £235 for a 4 day pass and £79 for a one day pass.  Proportionately this works out as cheaper than UK’s major festival tickets.

Often cited in the press as a beautiful festival with beautiful people Øya Festival is an energetic and symbiotic experience with a unique atmosphere and audience that bares resemblance to no other.  The festival is well organised, providing a stress free experience.  It is equipped with stages, shopping streets and small shops serving food and drink (almost 100% organic and locally sourced). There’s a focus on delicious meat, fish and vegetarian dishes with a special focus on organic food from small-scale producers.

Nominated for ‘Artist’s Favourite Festival’ at the 2012 European Festival Awards and ‘Best Line Up’ and ‘Best Medium Size Festival’ in 2011, Øya Festival is officially recognised as one of the greenest festivals in Europe, having won the "Greenest Festival in Europe" at the European Festival Awards 2010 and also the ”Green ’n’ Clean” award.   For 2013 the festival has been nominated for an ‘Outstanding award’ at A Greener Festival Awards – this award is for truly outstanding and inspirational events that have significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions, have excellent travel, transport and waste management programmes, protect the environment and minimise water use and communicate this to the public.
