Worcester Music Festival 2013 | ||
29th - 31st Aug 2013 Various Venues, Worcester, Worcestershire, United Kingdom |
This is a FREE event |
From around the county and across the UK over 240 acts in over 35 venues will take part in Worcester Music Festival taking place between Friday August 30 & Sunday, September 1.
Adding even more genres to open up the festival to more live music fans, organisers are set to welcome to the city the likes of dreamy trip-hoppers Mutant Vinyl from Liverpool, whose fans include BBC Radio One's Huw Stephens, post punk band Nudybronque from Swindon, and Nottingham’s Lunar Park, which includes a former member of indie band Six By Seven.
Flying the flag for jazz, folk and blues, there will be acts including Estonia-born Triinu Tammsalu, Bedfordshire’s Tequilla Mockingbird and Snooty Bobs from Walsall, while heavy metal buffs can go wild to bands including Hostile from Birmingham and Masiro from Oxford.
While welcoming up and coming acts from across the UK is key to the festival’s ethos, however, bands and artists from the county are why the celebration came about in the first place and are testament to the continued success of the event – now in its sixth year.
Organisers are thrilled to welcome back the likes of folk rocker Claire Boswell, teenage trio Granny’s Attic, Hitchhiker, Skewwhiff, Dryftwood, Vault of Eagles, Tequilla Mockingbird , Stuart Woolfenden, Mansize, Stompin’ On Spiders and many more, as well as scores of local newcomers wanting to showcase their own material.
FESTIVAL WORKSHOPS
Around 800 people took part in the festival’s workshops last year, from musicians hankering after a new skill or technique to those who had never picked up an instrument in their life.
There are around 30 free workshops for all ages and abilities to choose from this year, from Soundscapes, glamba samba drumming and a rock choir workshop to guitar maintenance and the chance to see how a radio show is made with BBC Hereford and Worcester.
For the first time, organisers are also offering dance workshops, plus the chance to learn to sign to music with one of the festival’s 2013 charities, Worcester Deaf Children’s Society. While you can just turn up, it’s best to book beforehand to secure a place.
