Wakestock 2012 is now only 6 weeks away! With the festival fast approaching we’re thrilled to announce we have five new acts on the bill including Wales’s very own Radio 1 DJ, HUW STEPHENS. Huw will be joined by ALUNA GEORGE, KOAN SOUND, A PLASTIC ROSE and SMILER.

BBC Radio 1’s HUW STEPHENS will return to Wakestock again this year. We love Huw here at Wakestock HQ, his passion for discovering and championing new music was spotted when at 17 he joined Radio 1 for its Nations output to reflect the music scene in Wales. He has since gone from strength to strength and has become one of the most well respected dj’s in the country today. Huw champions the best new unsigned, underground and under the radar music and brings it to our ears via his Radio 1 show and DJ sets. His dj sets at Wakestock are always hugely popular and we are sure that this year will be no different.

ALUNAGEORGE are another addition to the 2012 line up. This talented duo have been releasing a series of infectious mixes which fuse Aluna’s vocal harmonies with the electronic stylings of George Their EP “You Know you Like it”, released this year, is full of pop music bright enough to light up the charts. Having caught the attention of Rob da Bank who championed their initial collaboration Sweetheart on Radio 1, they succeeded in initially tapping the American market having had a track featured in the US series of Skins last year. Check them at Wakestock this year. We think you will love them!

Bristol based KOAN SOUND have been granted well deserved credibility from producers, DJs and music fans alike. The dub-step duo released their first single back in 2011 and the ‘Max Out EP’ turned attention on to them and led to them working with a number of artists, including Ed Sheeran. 2011 also saw the release of the ‘Funk Blaster EP’ on Skrillex’s OWSLA imprint. The EP achieved the No. 1 spot in the Beatport releases category. The duo rounded off 2011 with DJ sets across Europe and North America, and picked up ‘Best Breakthrough Artist’ at the Dubstep Music Awards in November. 2012 is set to be big for these guys so don’t miss them when they take to the stage.

After a tremendously busy 2011, A PLASTIC ROSE kicked off 2012 by supporting Snow Patrol on their arena tour. These guys hail from Belfast, Northern Ireland, and released their debut mini album “The Promise Notes” back in 2011, to great reviews. With the single “Build from the Ground Up” currently on sale and with an album set for release later this year, this band are ones to watch. Their mixture of pure emotion, and rock and roll dynamics has seen them winning over audiences all over the UK and Ireland, and they are sure to be popular with the Wakestock audience.

South London rapper SMILER will also take to the stage this year. He is best known for his single “Delorean” which featured Wretch 32 and became Zane Lowe’s Next Hype when it was unveiled in January 2012. Signed to Warner Brothers Records, and been out on the road supporting Professor Green, Smiler is tipped for the top in 2012.
