Eighties chart-toppers The Human League and singing sensation Aled Jones are set to perform at an annual charity concert in Lancashire this summer.

The Symphony at the Tower event in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice, near Preston, takes place over two nights this year for the first time ever.

The first – on Friday July 5 – will welcome synth-pop pioneers The Human League, whose hits include iconic eighties anthems ‘Don’t You Want Me’, ‘Together in Electric Dreams’ and ‘Human’, along with a string of records spanning the decades, up to the 2011 album Credo.

The following night musical star Aled Jones – who first found fame as the voice of ‘Walking in the Air’ from the hit film The Snowman, went on to release 24 albums, and is now also a familiar face on ITV’s Daybreak breakfast show - will perform. He will be accompanied by the Sophie Evans, star of the BBC’s Over the Rainbow talent TV show, and the Heart of England Philharmonic Orchestra.

The two-day event will come to a spectacular finale with a fabulous firework display, accompanied by the live 32-piece orchestra.

The two-night line-up is a huge boost for the annual Symphony event – which last year had to be cancelled due to heavy rainfall. Hospice bosses were devastated at being forced to call off the popular fundraiser, but the conditions meant it was unsafe to go ahead.

Lorraine Charlesworth, Director of Income Generation at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We’re delighted to be announcing the return of the Symphony in 2013 – which promises to be bigger and better than ever before, with household names taking tothe stage for two fantastic nights of music.

“We hope the addition of the Friday night event will open up the event to newaudiences from across the region, who can enjoy a great night out whilst raising evenmore money to fund the specialised care and support St Catherine’s Hospice provides.”

Peter Taylor, director at Cuffe & Taylor event and production company - who are working with St Catherine’s Hospice to host the event - added: “Cuffe & Taylor are thrilled to be assisting St Catherine’s Hospice with Symphony at the Tower.“This is a magnificent event, for a very worthwhile cause. Despite its cancellation last year we have worked hard with the hospice to ensure, whatever the weather, theevent will go ahead! We’ve secured a great line up, taking the event into two nights. What better way to enjoy two nights of live music, whilst at the same time supporting a worthwhile cause.”
