Joining the Main Stage on Saturday 31st August are one of Britain’s most talked-about bands of 2013, Manchester four-piece The 1975.
This March they enjoyed their first taste of the big time with their biggest chart success to date, the single ‘Chocolate’, which reached number 19 in the UK Singles Chart, and an extensive US tour this summer, confirmed appearances at Glastonbury and Hyde Park, as well as the announcement of a debut album set for release on Vagrant Records (home to PJ Harvey, Eels and Placebo) this September, have announced their arrival as one of the UK’s biggest indie acts of the year. Combining funky riffs, soaring anthemic choruses, ethereal vocals and smatterings of synth and pre-programmed drums, The 1975 are a throwback to the great ‘80s pop bands, albeit with a modern indie twist, and we’re sure they’re set for very big things indeed.
The JT Stage has two additions to its lineup; firstly, Public Service Broadcasting who perform on Saturday 31st August. The corduroy-clad duo are J. Willgoose Esq and drummer ‘Wrigglesworth’. Weaving samples of old public information films, archive footage and propaganda material around live drums, guitar, banjo and electronics, PSB are most certainly one of the most curiously captivating bands to join the Jersey Live bill this year.
They are followed the next day (Sunday 1st September) by up-and-coming British prog-rockers Wolf People. With influences including Led Zeppelin and Captain Beefheart, their sound is a riff-heavy psychedelic cocktail, and with a second album recently released by ultra cool alternative indie label Jagjaguwar and regular airplay on BBC6 Music, the band are beginning to catch the attention of many a rock critic and fan alike. A month long UK and European tour throughout May precedes a summer of festival appearances, ensuring a busy 2013 for Wolf People.
The final addition is tropical electronic four-piece Skip & Die, who perform live on the Dance Stage on Saturday 31st August and the Folklore Stage on Sunday 1st September. Their fusion of tropical, reggae, dub, klezmer and heavyweight electronic elements has won them an ever-increasing army of fans, and a recent appearance at the UK’s biggest live music showcase event, Brighton’s Great Escape festival, announced them as an act to look out for. Their fusion of global styles makes them the perfect addition to the Jersey Live bill.
