Stockton Weekender, has announced further artists set to play this years event on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 July, including platinum selling act Spiritualized.
The experimental rock band, fronted by Jason Pierce aka J. Spaceman, will take to the Main Stage on Saturday 27 July, before Primal Scream. Saturday will also see Dublin’s most exciting prospect Kodaline and the flamboyantly entertaining King Charles perform to the Riverside masses.
Spiritualized come with major festival pedigree having played to hundreds of thousands at events such as Glastonbury, and last year headlined one of the nights at the multi award winning Festival No. 6, which was also headlined by Primal Scream.
The band is renowned for it’s sublime and symphonic sounds, and has released seven studio albums; two of which went Top 5, and three going top 20 in the UK.
The most recent release, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, which was released last year. The album was heralded as a spectacular return and was also the acts highest charting album so far in America.
6Music favourites Temples have also been announced to headline Saturday night on The Vela Stage, which sits alongside the Main Stage.
The Kettering pair have been likened to a cross between The Turtles, The Coral and The Stone Roses by NME, and as well as getting constant radio play from 6Music, they have also just been confirmed to play major Spanish Benicassim, alongside Arctic Monkeys and The Killers.
Irish rockers Kodaline have been making serious waves in recent months. The bands break-through track All I Want was featured in American drama Greys Anatomy at the end of 2012 and the band were featured in nearly every ‘Ones to watch in 2013’ list around.
Mumford and Sons collaborator King Charles also joins Saturday’s line up, adding his genre spanning hits to the day’s proceedings. Described as everything from psychedelic rock to folk-pop, King Charles was last seen in Stockton headlining 2012’s Stockton Calling, and to huge acclaim.
Joining Dexys and The Proclaimers on Sunday 28 July are another 6Music favourite, Dutch Uncles.
The band released their debut album, Out of Touch in the Wild, earlier this year to huge critical acclaim after an impressive 2012, which saw them headline stages at both Latitude and Bestival.
Their brand of new wave pop has been compared to both Hot Chip and Talking Heads, and will bring a perfect party vibe with hits such as Flexxin and Fester.
Ciara Johnson of Tees Music Alliance said of the new announcements, “We’re really excited by the wave of new bands we’ve confirmed. We pride ourselves on booking up and coming acts; in 2011 we had Django Django and last year Jake Bugg, and we expect big things from acts such as Kodaline, Temples and Dutch Uncles.’
“The quality of artists we’re bringing to Teesside gets better every year and it’s coming across in how quickly tickets are selling.”
