Fowling five sold out years, and with a crowd of nearly 3,000 fans in 2011,Southsea Fest is quickly becoming one of the most exciting new music eventsin Britain – hosted by, and for, music fans.
Billed as a “real celebration of new music”, each of the 14 venues along AlbertRoad, including the stunning Prince Albert Theatre at the heart of the festival, will host over 12 hours of live music from some of the country’s leading emerging artists on one day this September 15th.
Not only will 2012 be Southsea Fest’s biggest ever year, but the fun, nautical themed festival has an explosive history that points to it being THE city-basedrock event for new music fans. “Watching a new rock band in a field is likegoing to the seaside when it’s snowing – something’s just not quite right”, sayorganizers…“What Southsea Fest does is put bands with a big show into tiny, sweat-boxvenues, and let them explode into the audience.
When Pulled Apart By Horses played the tiny 100 capacity Edge Of The Wedge venue in 2010, fans hung onto the rafters of the building while guitarist James Brown spent three songs crowdsurfing. It was terrifying – it was rock and roll. In 2009 Django Django stormedThe Loft, performing most of their set from within the audience. It was ahappening. And after Bastille caused a short-circuit in the Fat Fox in 2011 dueto the amount of sweat pouring onto the equipment, Dry The River followedwith a set that found people sneaking in through the toilet window only to bemet by wall to wall moshing. Again, it was exciting – it’s the kind of experiences you had when you were a kid.”
Tickets are priced at £18.00 (advance) for an adult ticket, which allowsaccess into all of the 14 participating venues and official aftershow parties.
Adult tickets will be available on the day, priced at £20.00.
Young person’s tickets are priced at just £8.00 (advance).
