Following the success of Calecott Park’s Rugby Music Festival 2012, organisers report that planning for RMF2013 is well underway, with Rugby and national acts confirmed for the line up and Rugby companies stepping forward to support the event as sponsors.
Local rock-funkmeisters White Men Can’t Funk, who made a great impact this summer, have agreed to join the line up on August 18th next year together with Liquid Insanity and Stonefire. From further afield, critically acclaimed folk rock combo Fitz and award winning solo artist Kristy Gallacher are also to appear.
BBC Radio 6 Music tipped Fitz are a collective performing sincere and intricate acoustic alternative folk. With their wistful sound these boys bring a special sort of energy to their music, gracefully waltzing between the “get up and dance” and the “sit down and listen”. Fitz’s recent second single, ‘Caves’, was featured on Tom Robinson’s BBC6 Music and the debut album, Patchwork, will be released in the spring of 2013. At the 2000 Trees Festival Fitz were described as “…the new Mumford and Sons…”.
Kristy is a guitarist and songwriter from Coventry with her own record label Broken Player Records. She is “songwriting her way through life”, regularly tours, and in addition to her own shows has supported Ed Sheeran, Micheal Chapman, Scott Matthews, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Elton John, Paul Weller and Glenn Tilbrook amongst others. Kristy has recently released her second album. ‘Spinning Plates’.
RMF organisers are expecting to feature 15 acts at the family-fun event, which takes place in Caldecott Park and is free of charge. Rugby Music Festival is being made available at no cost thanks to the kind support of sponsors including Asda Rugby, Brown & Cockerill Estate Agents and Rugby First.
David Head, one of the organisers, said “We know it might sound odd talking about plans for a summer event on the run up to Christmas, but getting the early support of sponsors and good quality acts is great news for the festival, which is fast becoming an important part of Rugby’s calendar”.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available and organisers can be contacted through the website.
