This is a FREE event |
With less than one month to go, the full line up for this year's Rochdale Feel Good Festival is complete. Taking place on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 August 2013, the free music and food festival returns for its sixth birthday.
Topping Saturday’s musical programme are The Feeling. Amongst the British pop-rock success stories of the last decade, the band that have gone from strength to strength since 2006, when their million-selling debut LP, 12 Stops and Home, was released. With a fourth album currently waiting in the wings, and an autumn UK tour, this is one of the first opportunities anyone will have had to see the Ivor Novello Award-winners since they finished the new record.
Reason enough to visit Rochdale Town Hall square, the main festival area, in addition to that celebrated troupe crowds can expect a decade-spanning performance from non-other than Neville Staple. As one of the godfathers of ska, and a truly revered showman, we’re expecting a set of classics taken from his sizeable solo back catalogue, along with time spent as a member of both The Specials and Fun Boy Three- the perfect soundtrack to a summer afternoon spent dancing.
Also sharing the honours will be The Crookes, another rapidly rising northern outfit. Hailing from Sheffield, this guitar-led indie four piece have a firm reputation for delivering the goods live, with an oeuvre of work that has found favour with the likes of BBC 6 Music, Richard Hawley, and NME, to name but a few. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s The Sundowners will be performing too, bringing their sunkissed, 1960s-tinged folky rock ‘n’ roll to town.
All of which is in addition to Screaming Maldini, whose infectious, notably blissful pop tones are also set to be involved, and Red Alert, the local hip hop MC and winner of Rochdale Feel Good Festival’s Battle of the Bands competition (set to open the main stage). Plenty to sink ears into then, and that’s before anyone has mentioned the sumptuous edible attractions scheduled to grace the event, with renowned chefs such as Simon Rimmer, Andrew Nutter, Aazam Ahmad and Alison Seagrave confirmed as headliners for the Celebrity Kitchen.
