Electric Picnic has today announced that renowned Led Zeppelin front man ROBERT PLANT joins the headliners at this year’s tenth birthday celebrations.
Enthralling fans on his recent tour of Australia with an eclectic set list of Zeppelin hits and new sounds from The Sensational Space Shifters, Adelaide Now hailed ‘The Sensational Space Shifters as everything their name suggests’ and the Brisbane Times said ‘What's going on is further proof that Plant is far more imaginative, playful and adventurous than any cliche, a man who's absorbed all the music he's loved and played and sought out the musicians to explore that’
In shows to date the ‘Rock and Roll’ set list has included ‘Friends’, ‘Black Dog’, ‘Whole Lotta Love’ and many more. This is one performance that is sure to have Picnickers scrambling to get pole position on the sprawling lawns of the Stradbally estate.
From rock god to indie-pop idols…
British pop sensation ELLIE GOULDING returns to our shores to bring her indie-pop sound to Electric Picnic. The songstress gained momentum on an international level following a list of awards and nominations including winner of the 2010 BRIT Critics Choice Award, a certified triple platinum single for ‘Lights’ by the Recording Industry Association of America and a stream of internationally chart-topping singles.
Dublin quintet LITTLE GREEN CARS return to this year’s Electric Picnic with a #1 album under the belt, with their debut ‘Absolute Zero’ hitting the top of the Irish charts this week. Since their 2011 EP debut the band has gone from strength to strength, garnering international success and a loyal fan-base. The well-crafted lyrics and instrumentation of tracks such as ‘Harper Lee’ and ‘The John Wayne’ have gained critical acclaim, catering to both mainstream and alternative audiences alike. With a string of headline shows, the debut album and a performance on U.S. television ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ under their belt, Electric Picnickers should book their spot on the field early!
This year picnickers will have a feast on the delights of ska legends, THE BEAT. The 2 tone ska ensemble made an indelible mark on the ska scene when reigning supreme in the early 80s with ‘Mirror in the Bathroom’ and ‘Hands Off…She’s mine’. The Gold and Platinum selling group are a testament to ska and will blow the crowd away with their distinctive delivery of 2 tone ska and dance. Over thirty years since the band first formed and following an array of line-up alterations, Electric Picnic welcomes Dave Wakeling (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Rhythmm Epkins (Drums/Vocals), Antonee First Class (Toaster), Matt Morrish (Sax/Vocals), Kevin Lum (Keys/Vocals) and Roger Bueno (Bass/Vocals) to showcase their roots.
American rockers BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB (BRMC) will bring their atmospheric garage rock, neo-psychedelic sound to the crowd of Stradbally. Following a sold-out gig at the Academy, a string of albums and the release of the new (seventh) record ‘Spectre at the Feast’, this San Franciscan trio will storm the Stradbally grounds.
The Irish punk scene will be forever in debt to TERRI HOOLEY. Founder of the record label and shop ‘Good Vibrations’, Hooley put punk bands such as The Undertones and The Outcasts on the music map in the 70s. 2013 brought the critically-acclaimed film ‘Good Vibrations’ that documented Hooley’s prominent role in the 70s music scene and the picnic provides a unique treat to listen and engage with Mr Hooley with his own rare DJ set.
American singer-songwriter JOHN GRANT of the Czars fame will return to Ireland following his recent sold-out gig at Vicar Street and 2011 performance at the festival. With the new album ‘Pale Green Ghosts’, featuring our own Sinead O’Connor, Grant will bring his melancholic musings to the stage at Stradbally.
MILES KANE returns to Ireland to showcase his latest solo material. Picnickers can join Kane, co-frontman of The Last Shadow Puppets and former frontman of The Rascals, on this solo voyage of rock n’ roll, garage and soul. With his second solo record ‘Don’t Forget Who You Are’ set for release this summer, a string of award nominations including this year’s NME Best Solo Artist, revellers will be stomping and rocking to Kane’s rejuvenation of the classic 70s Mod theme.
Set the scene – sun, fields and the soulful tracks of MATTHEW E. WHITE floating through the air. Following the success of 2012’s ‘Big Inner’, the American songwriter/producer/arranger returns to Ireland to share his blend of soul, jazz and gospel.
Hailing from the Basque region in Spain, the unique seven-piece outfit CRYSTAL FIGHTERS return to Electric Picnic following their 2010 performance on the Body and Soul stage. Mashing dance and electronics fused with the traditional Basque music and dance, the band produce a synth-folk sound. The recently released ‘LA Calling’ from their upcoming second album ‘Cave Rave’ gives us a taste of the energetic spontaneity that will reverberate throughout Electric Picnic.
2013 has proven to be the year for Dublin singer-songwriter GAVIN JAMES. With a number one single on the Irish iTunes chart and winner of 2013 Meteor Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year Award with single ‘Say Hello’, James returns to Stradbally to woo revellers with his mesmerising talent and delivery.
Mixing conventional folk arrangements with contemporary rock trimmings, Los Angeles quartet DAWES return to Ireland to share their folk-rock cali-roots sound. With new album ‘Stories Don’t End’ just released, the ethereal musical meanderings of the band will have picnickers swooning and swaying in unison.
Using live drums, synthesizers and noise, FACTORY FLOOR return to Ireland and bring their post-industrial, synth-noir sound to Electric Picnic.
LADY LAMB THE BEEKEEPER aka Aly Spaltro will perform for the first time in Ireland. Spaltro first hit the scene with a selection of home-recordings, won Folk Artist of the Year 2010 at the Boston Music Awards and since, has been steadily making waves with the release of her debut album ‘Ripely Pine’. Electric Picnic attendees should make a bee-line for the understated excellence of Spaltro’s bittersweet emotions and honesty wrapped in her folk-esque style.
Following her support for Ellie Goulding at the Olympia, the English songstress Charlotte Aitchison aka CHARLI XCX returns to Ireland with her postmodern pop-synth sound. With the recently released debut album ‘True Romance’, the online (and eventually offline) success of tracks such as ‘You (Ha Ha Ha)’ and having co-written Icona Pop’s stormer ‘I love it’, Electric Picnic revellers are in for an energetic treat.
CAYUCAS, named after a Californian beach, create an immortal summer surfing vibe through simple and repetitive instrumentation, vocals and lyrics. Electric Picnic will be the band’s first Irish performance and with their debut album ‘Bigfoot’ just released, EP revellers will enjoy bopping about to the sun-bleached nostalgia of the tracks.
Labelled the diva of electronic soul, LULU JAMES’ musical flirtations with various music genres such as dubstep, R&B, soul and electro has caused an upbeat stir. With the new single ‘Closer’ storming dance floors, picnickers should expect a loud electrifying soulful performance.
American singer-songwriter Winston Yellen aka NIGHT BEDS will transport revellers to a heavenly place with his musical meanderings of love and life beyond his young years. With debut album ‘Country Sleep’ gaining rave reviews, Yellen’s acoustic genius and charismatic fretwork will leave the audience awestruck.
Manchester’s electronic three-piece NO CEREMONY and their distinctive synth-noir are Stradbally bound for their Picnic debut. Personified by distorted synths, drums and pianos juxtaposed with glitchy melancholic vocals, revellers will be transfixed by the euphoric and emotive performance.
Belfast producer Jack Hamill aka SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER returns to Electric Picnic to showcase his new album ‘Welcome to Mikrosector-50’. Hamill’s electronic cosmic-funk meanderings, ideal for a sci-fi narrative, will transport attendees to a parallel Electric Picnic universe through the futuristic electro-funk beats.
American singer-songwriter VALERIE JUNE returns to our shores following her last Irish performance at The Sugar Club. Following rave performances at SXSW and the release of new record ‘Pushin' Against a Stone’ released on Rob da Bank's stellar label Sunday Best, Stradbally will be swooned by the folk, bluegrass vibe and lyrical genius of the self-taught musician.
CHROME SPARKS is the project of 22 year old musician/producer Jeremy Malvin. An amalgamation of classical percussion, synth and dance creates the unique transcending ambience of Chrome Sparks music and style. In 2010, Malvin garnered online attention with the single ‘I’ll Be Wait For Sadness Comes Along’ and with performances at SXSW and the new EP ‘Sparks’ set for release, an atmospheric experience is expected.
BIG BLACK DELTA is the solo project of vocalist/bassist Jonathan Bates of L.A. rock band Mellowdrone fame. With the recent release of ‘Side of the Road’ of the self-titled album, Bates continues to deliver fantastic transcendental tracks, creating visionary dreamlike soundscapes that will transport picnickers to an existential place.
