BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend will return to Londonderry, Northern Ireland, on 24 to 26 May.
The annual free music event was held there in 2004, but will visit the city again as it celebrates its status as UK City Of Culture for 2013.
The event, which will expand to three days of music for the first time, will focus on dance music and Radio 1Xtra on the first day.
Olly Murs and Two Door Cinema Club are the first artists confirmed to perform. It will be located in the city centre with two main stages of live music.
This year's location was revealed by BBC Radio 1 breakfast show host Nick Grimshaw on Thursday (31 January), who was broadcasting live from the city.
Headline artists and a full line-up will be confirmed in the coming months. Before the festival, young people in Derry will be invited to attend Radio 1 and 1Xtra's academy between 13 and 17 May to take part in a series of workshops and sessions.
Jason Carter, the BBC's Head of Live Music and Events, Popular Music, said: "The last Big Weekend in the city in 2004 was a legendary music moment in Northern Ireland and it's so great to be able to return with an even bigger show second time around."
Ticket details will be announced in the coming months.
Big Weekend, which will be based in the city's Ebrington Square, will also be shown live on BBC Three.
Derry's mayor Kevin Campbell said: "The Radio 1 Big Weekend event in 2004 was a huge event for the city and region and we are delighted that Radio 1 has decided to come back to Derry and bring some of the world's top performing artists to be part of our City of Culture celebrations.
"The return of Europe's biggest free ticketed music event is a huge coup for the city and we are hugely excited about it."
Last year a special Radio 1 Hackney Weekend took place in east London to mark the Olympic Park and saw performances from headliners Jay-Z and Rihanna.
