The Great Escape, Europe’s biggest festival for new music,released its second wave of 100 artists for this years event including: Kate Tempest, the South East Londoner who has carved a completely unique space within the music industry with her distinctive and honest works.

Fusing performance, poetry and rap, she won the Ted Hughes Award in 2013 and her subsequent debut album Everybody Down was nominated for a Mercury Prize in 2014. One of a small number of separately ticketed shows at TGE, Tempest, with support from two of the UK’s most exciting spoken word artists George The Poet and Hollie McNish, will perform at the Brighton Dome - Corn Exchange on Thursday 14th May and is co-promoted with the Brighton Festival.*

Also joining the line-up for the UK’s answer to SXSW is disruptive electronic musician LA Priest aka Sam Dust of Late of the Pier, polished electronic producer Ghost Culture, West Coast R&B singer Kela, futuristic soul singer Nao, Danish Alternative Rock Mew, enigmatic Las Vegas native Shamir, singer-songwriter Shannon Saunders, Bluegrass Finnish metal band Steve 'N' Seagulls, London MC Stomzy and LA visual artists turned electronic duo 18+.

Recently reinvented Birmingham four piece Swim Deep, London MC and producer collaboration Mumdance & Novelist, Belgian rock group Intergalactic Lovers, blissful London based producer Boxed In 90s throwback girl power trio M.O, Christopher Smith’s new project Dralms, tropical indie pop band Sundara Karma , Montreal Hip Hop collective The Posterz and stripped back folk singer Aldous Harding also join today’s announcement.

With support from Arts Council England, the organisers of The Great Escape are excited to announceGreat Day Out, a new strand of the festival that will develop the programming on offer for a 14+ audience. In celebration of the 10th birthday and with a commitment to embrace younger music fans, The Great Escape will curate a multi-venue music programme on Saturday 16th May that will satisfy a growing appetite for discovering the best in new music. The first artist to join the Great Day Out line-up is English pop rock band Lawson.

Running alongside the official festival programme is The Great Escape convention, the UK’s biggest industry event which will focus on four key topics: Music Licensing – Explained At Last!’, ’Music Marketing Is Broken – Let’s Fix It’, ‘How To Sell Out Gracefully – Better Brand Partnerships’ and ‘What's The Point Of A Record Label Anyway?’. These divisive topics will be explored in depth via a series of panels,presentations, debates and keynote speakers. The speakers for these events, plus the series of In Conversation sessions, will be revealed soon.

To coincide with the 10th anniversary, The Great Escape will be paying particular focus to the vibrant music scene of the United Kingdom and today sees 30+ emerging UK artists join the line-up including LAKE KOMO, SEAFRET, VAULTS, WE ARE SHINING, PORT ISLA, NOTHING BUT THIEVES, DORNIK and NIMMO. These artists join the likes of previously announced stalwart UK talent LÅPSLEY, SLAVES, SUNSET SONS and PINS. This partnership is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England as well as UK Music, the campaigning and lobbying body which represents every part of the UK music industry.
