Having been voted the ‘Best Small Festival’ at the European Festival Awards 2012, Tauron Nowa Muzyka is arguably the best underground electronic music festival you’ve never heard of. Shying away from predictable bookings, TNM pushes the boundaries of this genre to showcase those that innovate within it from special live performances, A/V shows, new collaborations, label showcases and DJ sets. Inhabited in the beautiful Katowice disused coalmine in the Upper Silesia Region of Poland, the area formerly used for industry has been transformed into a real mecca for contemporary music lovers. The old production halls, warehouses, carpentries and the amazing pressure tower prove to be the ideal acoustics for showcasing anything from instrumental nu-jazz to the dark sounds of minimal techno.
2013’s festival is set to be better than ever before with an enviable roster of electronic music acts revealed from all sides of the sound spectrum. First up due to popular demand, TNM welcomes back trio Moderat who enviably rocked the main stage back in 2010 and this year is anticipated to be even more special with the Polish premier of Moderat’s new album exclusively taking place at the festival. Next is a classic act that needs no introduction, British artist and 80's bass-heavy techno pioneer LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) aka Mark Bell makes his debut performance in Poland for the first time ever. Despite his young age Croydon-born British producer Oliver Jones, widely known as Skream!, has been at the forefront of the dubstep music scene taking it from the small underground clubs of Croydon to a worldwide music genre sensation. During his polish performance Skream! shall be acompanied by Sgt. Pokes, a charismatic and distinctive MC. Finally, joining these heavyweights is a diverse and multi-talented musician Aaron Funk – aka Venetian Snares, who's uncompromising approach to making beats has made him a cult like figure among fans of avant-garde electronic music and heavy metal bass music; an act that is sure not-to-be-missed at TNM 2013.
Other highlights include multilayered sound and sight attack on all senses, Squarepusher, JETS - a joint project formed by two real masters of dance music - Jimmy Edgar and Travis Stewart, known as Machinedrum. A phenomenal 20th Anniversary showcase from the esteemed German label Kompakt records, consisting of a DJ set from the man himself DJ Koze who will be debuting material from his newest album Amygdala, as well as label mates Sid le Rock and Coma. Additionally on Kompakt Mathias Aguayo will be performing live with his full band, a very special and rare performance, whilst Spanish duo ZA! will be delighting fans at TNM 2013.
Other artists include CHK CHK CHK, Zebra Katz and Njena Reddd Foxxx, Jon Hopkins announced today, as well as up-and-coming electronic artists such as Holly Herndon, Mmoths, Darling Farah and Dawn Day Night.
