Purbeck Folk Festival have today announced that Mama Rosin has been added to this years line up.They come from the shores of Lake Geneva, in Switzerland, the band tours regularly and their most recent studio album, Bye Bye Bayou, was released in 2012.
Mama Rosin are known for their live performances, where they deliver their highly-charged tunes in bursts of contagious energy. The absence of a bass player and the band’s three-man structure give them more freedom to roam in different musical directions and to shift through the gears, revving their guitars and pounding their beats, while the melodeon screams like the horn of a speeding truck.
In addition to their originality, Mama Rosin can also be noted for their versatility. The three members will often switch instruments to give rise to a variety of musical moods. On top of the drums, guitars, banjos and melodeons, other unusual instruments will crop up here and there, such as the washboard, the metal triangle, the fiddle, the harmonica or the slide-guitar and the band have been known to finish off their sets with a couple of acoustic tracks played, and sang, in the middle of a clapping and dancing crowd. Also joining the line up is Pete Morton.
