Make a Scene Festival charges into its fifth year this October, having grown to be considered the North-East’s premier independent Alternative music festival.
Waving the banner for UK music, with a reputation for showcasing new and emerging alternative music talent, while supporting the local and national music scene. Make A Scene festival also offers regional bands the opportunity to perform in front of eager and enthusiastic crowds, and the inspiration of sharing the stage with some of their heroes.
Year on year, alternative music fans of all ages from all over the UK flock to Teesside University in increasing numbers to see their favourite bands, discover new music and support local musicians in a fun, safe and electric atmosphere. Celebrating the local areas emerging talent and bringing top headline artists to Middlesbrough, with over 30 live acts covering many genres split over multiple stages.
Taking place on Sunday 5th October 2014 at Teesside University Students Union. For a day packed with live music and of course the semi legendary after show party!
In recent years the festival has welcomed top acts such as: While She Sleeps, Lower Than Atlantis, Bury Tomorrow, Don Broco, Mallory Knox, Young Guns, The Lawrence Arms, Neck Deep, Hacktivist, Blitz Kids, Brutality Will Prevail, Feed The Rhino, TRC, Fearless Vampire Killers, Martyr Defiled and Heights, along with heaps of local talent.
The festival organisers are also credited with bringing a wide range of bands to Middlesbrough such as: You Me At Six, Enter Shikari, Skindred, Deaf Havana, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Wheatus, Set Your Goals, All That Remains, Unearth, Major League, Alestorm, Hawthorne Heights, The Chariot, The Creepshow, The Dangerous Summer, Deathstars, Sworn Enemy, OPM, Send More Paramedics and Sylosis.
We are pleased to announce this year’s show will be headlined by legendary Welsh rockers FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND! Without a doubt one of the biggest UK Alternative acts of the last decade. FFAF have enjoyed both critical acclaim and chart success with albums such as “Casually Dressed & Deep in Conversation” and “Hours” well and truly etched in rock history as some of the greatest Post-Hardcore or Emo records of all time. In many ways defining the genres for others to follow.
Fellow countrymen THE BLACKOUT will join them on the main stage. Both bands have previously enjoyed sold out Middlesbrough shows, so don’t be surprised if there’s somewhat of a ticket frenzy for this year’s festival! THE BLACKOUT have also had mainstream success with three albums in the UK top 40, along with numerous Kerrang! Awards and nominations.
HACKTIVIST are back for a second year after a main stage spot in 2013. Fresh from playing epic rock festivals such as Download, Rock Am Ring and support tours with the mighty Limp Bizkit and Korn! A band that truly turn heads and defy genres with their Grime-Metal stylings, it’s impossible to ignore the waves created by this band and their incredibly energetic live show!
UK Pop-Punk quintet DECADE join the line-up to provide some catchy sing a longs with popular tunes such as “British Weather” and “Brainfreeze” from their popular new album “Good Luck”.
Crossover metal act MALEVOLENCE will be on hand to provide some much needed mosh pit action. Their album “Reign of Suffering” was one of our favourite metal records of 2013. Expect big riffs and a crazy crowd!
ME VS HERO mark their return to Teesside shortly after the release of their much anticipated second studio album “I’m completely fine”. If you’re into Pop-Punk this is the band for you.
Rising stars MOOSE BLOOD also join the party with their mix of 90s influenced Emo and Pop Rock sounds. Keep an eye on these chaps - we are predicting big things on the horizon!
ROAM bring the Punk-Rock to Make a Scene. Their recent release “Head Down” drips with hooks, emotion and early-twenties angst. Check out the bands single “Head Rush” - it will not disappoint.
How do we describe ASTROID BOYS? Is it Hip-Hop? Is it Grime? Seriously, we don’t know. But we know that we like it. A lot.
Skater Punk outfit GIANTS, Rising Hardcore Metal band LOCK & KEY, and the funky, eccentric “Letlive-type” stylings of ZOAX also play, alongside COUNTING DAYS – featuring ex members of Heights, TRC, Architects, Last Witness and More than Life. Insane high energy act THE COLOUR LINE, Metalcore band SET TO BREAK and Hell-Metal demons WRAITHS will also take the stage for the fifth year of Make a Scene Festival.
This year’s LOCAL TALENT comes from THE NX, FOUNDATIONS, ALL AT SEA, OH PIONEER, BLACK NEVADA, ACROSS ALL OCEANS, HELLBOUND, SET YOUR SIGHTS,MERCHANTS and WITHOUT BOUNDS. More local artists are to be confirmed soon!
