The organisers of Live in Barnsley have announced the first 8 bands that have been confirmed.

The Silhouettes, a young 4-piece rock n roll band from Barnsley, formed in May 2013. They have already played last years Coalfields Festival plus the 02 Academy in Sheffield and are now planning on releasing their first EP. The band commented “ we’re going to record some of our new material to show the start of the new direction/sound we are taking!. We love playing music and will take any gigs we can get and LIVE in Barnsley is a great opportunity for us!”

Invisible Grease, a 4-piece indie band from Barnsley that formed two years ago and have already played many times in Barnsley, Leeds and Sheffield.

Taxi for Bob, a 3-piece punk band from Barnsley, formed in March 2013 they are influenced by bands such as Green Day, Blink 182, Bowling for soup etc and play a mix of covers and their own material.

Ian Jeffries, solo acoustic performer from Pontefract, who may be our oldest performer this year aged 60. Ian commented “I enjoy putting my own stamp on cover versions of songs from my  favourite musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger and Richie Sambora. I just have a blast finding the songs and then playing them, the whole point is to have fun in what you do, and I do have fun!”.

The Hearts, a young 3-piece from Barnsley that describe their sound as “A unique blues twist on indie music. Playing music from the heart”. 

Under the Influence, who describe themselves as a 5 piece indie/rock/punk band from Barnsley, commented “we are the best up and coming band in the world (some people call this arrogance or stupidity but we call it the truth”. In March they are heading into the studio to record their debut EP titled ‘Rumbling of a Giant’.

Soulprint, a 4-piece alternative rock band from Barnsley who take their inspiration from bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Last Shadow Puppets, Bloc Party, Biffy Clyro, Muse, RadioHead, Bob Marley & Jimi Hendrix. Which should be interesting.

Anaconda Vice, a newly formed 4-piece rock/grunge band from Barnsley. Consisting of Tom Scurr (former Shamble Street frontman), Tom Heeley (former Crimson Heads and Dislocator lead guitar), Rob Scarfe (current Dislocator bass guitar) and Andy Walker (former Crimson Heads drummer & current Dislocator frontman).  he band take their inspiration from Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters etc.

One of the organisers, Dave Pearsall, told us “It’s great to kick off with 8 acts that didn’t play at LIB last year and, in some instances, haven’t even been together 12 months. The number of applications is already up on this time last year and we’re looking forward to including even more great bands.”

LIVE in Barnsley, the town’s first metropolitan free music festival that took place last summer in 11 town centre venues with 99 bands and attended by over 3,000 music fans, is set to take place again this summer on Saturday 21st June.
