Leeds Festival, as amazing this year as previously, began with rain showers which saw most of the music fans head for the tent stages.

The NME stage opened with Scottish band DANANANANAYKROYD

The US band Cage the Elephant played alternative garage rock with the lead singer Matthew Shultz reminiscent of a young Roger Daltry, covering every inch of the NME stage.

The Streets played their last ever festival gig and managed to impact on the crowd lets hope that the rumoured split is just that as it would be a shame to loose such a fine band

As the rain continued, the Mercury Music Prize winners of 2008 Elbow stirred up the crowds, the lead singer Guy Garvay had the rain soaked crowd eating out of his hands. The anthemic ‘One day like this’ had the crowd swaying despite the pouring rain all through their set

More fans then waded through the fields to see Muse who played the entire Origin of Symmetry alongside giant pitchforks, concluding with an amazing light show experience. The sound at the main stage was excellent.

Meanwhile on the Festival Republic stage Pete Docherty with an acoustic set had the whole crowd transfixed with Dylanesque soulful lyrics.
