The Big Beach Ball Festival in Aberdeen have revealedthe first round of acts for it's 85th birthday celebrations. Taking place in and around the city’s iconic Beach Ballroom across 5 stages of music – BBB ’14 sees some of the world’s biggest DJs line-up alongside fantastic live bands and artists from across the country.

One of house music’s originators Kerri Chandler an iconic figure in the electronic music world, brings his inspirational and instinctive 4/4 beat to our outdoor stage; a perfect setting for what will be one of the most exciting performances Aberdeen has seen in recent years.

Detroit born techno pioneer Green Velvet, another Aberdeen favourite, returns to Scotland under his alter-ego guise of CAJMERE, ready to lay down some trademark hypnotic house and jacking grooves - headlining their special ‘10 Years of Snafu Stage’ inside the Ballroom.

Nominated as ‘DJs of the Year’ 2013 by DJ Mag, Glasgow based duo Optimo make The Big Beach Ball Festival journey together for the first time. Revered by clubbers and critics in equal measure, no one unites a dance floor like Twitch & Wilkes as they set about seamlessly pulling together every genre under the sun. In addition another Sub Club pair, fountain of youth and long term Subculture residents Harri & Domenic will bring a touch of class to proceedings this year; their DJ skills respected the world over for pushing boundaries in every direction.

Indeed, the same can be said for Irish youngster Krystal Klear, graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy and RinseFM radio host, who makes his Aberdeen debut at this year’s festival. Effortlessly sliding from boogie to funk to hip-hop, Krystal Klear is one act you Have to get down early to catch, not only touted as one of the UK’s most on point selectors, but a producer hyped by everyone from Hudson Mohawke to Brodinksi via the likes of Skream, Jackmaster and Joy Orbison – he certainly has a bright future in this game.

Also returning is Mungo's Hi-Fi alongside Charlie P once more to bring a whole heap of reggae fun to the festival. This sound system crew have won fans the world over playing as far afield as Peru, Croatia and Brazil this year, with their forward thinking approach to music and ever popular releases on in-house record label, Scotch Bonnet. It wouldn’t be The Beach Ball Festival without them.

Upping the game again, live music fans will be pleased to see big performances on the cards by a variety of bands from around the UK, leading their respective fields with distinction.

Including Admiral Fallow and The Little Kicks who will complete their Scottish Tour at The Big Beach Ball Festival, playing one of their only shows in the city this year.

Headlining the Peace & Jam Live Lounge at the top of the Ballroom is Malcolm Middleton. Completing the live line-up for their first announcement is Fatherson, Pictish Trail, Tuff Love who will perform a mini Lost Map Records showcase in the Peace & Jam Lounge. Sunny rockers Ok Social Club, recently crowned ‘Best Live Act’ at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards. Marionettes, Forest Fires and Dundee’s The Mirror Trap.

With all this and more to come, plus Breakneck Comedy, Pop Up Shops, Beach Bars and Food Markets, 2014’s Big Beach Ball Festival is set to be one of the biggest music events in Scotland this year.
