Kendal Calling announces that their Kids and Family area will be the best yet. Read below for details of everything that’s planned – plus details of other delights for festival goers of all ages!.....

Amongst the highlights are magical Willy Wonka chocolate challenges, family breakfast café, heaps of scary/bouncy/slidy stuff in the kids zone, family friendly cabaret and the super cheesy glow glow disco!

Kendal Calling is hollering from the hilltops for our young festival revelers this year, and boy, what a plethora of unique fun we have planned for you this year.  This year kid’s activities span the whole site, with a Kids Breakfast Club in the Emperor's Fields camping area and the Family Camping area, bigger and better Ladybird Kids area, improved family friendly facilities plus activities for all the family in Tim Peaks Diner to boot!

The Ladybird area returns with a brand new array of great activities and fresh new family focused evening entertainment, there’s a Willy Wonka themed Kids area including the Ladybird's fantastic family friendly cabaret and the super cheesy Glow Glow Space Disco! There’s the Ladybird Grand Carnival, Giant Games, Sports Day, Tug-o-war and madcap challenges, new adventure playground and much more! Brand new for 2013 is a workshops tent where young Kendal Callers can get busy on cool workshops including beatboxing, puppetry, Junk Percussion, Mad Science Experiments, and a whole host of fun creations to make and parade around at the Sunday Carnival.

Over at Tim Peaks Diner get Spotting & Jotting with Matt Sewell. Do you know your waxwings from your chaffinches? Young twitchers can take on the challenge of spotting all our feathered friends. Plus families can have a smashing time making a mosaic. There are Bedtime Stories with Clint Boon, Softball tournaments, face painting and all kinds of grooviness!

The festival will have designated toilets for litt’ans, specially trained family stewards and new for 2013 a Mum’s and Tots tent with nappy changing facility, toddlers play area and picnic benches for family lunches. Our specially trained stewards are also on the lookout, ready to pounce on marauding revellers who might wander unknowingly into the family experience, so they can re-direct them back to adult land, and maintain the high quality family experience the festival is are striving for this year.

Amazing Adventure Play Challenge Area

Gather round for gallavanting high and low in the brand new adventure play area.  Whether it be rampaging on a death defying adventure, or mustering for some tip top adventure training from Indiana Holmes, readying to race off on a brilliant treasure hunt every day.

Giant Puppet making

Join the Ladybird crew in the creation of some fantastic, gigantic puppets for the grand carnival on Sunday.

Dream catchers, fairy wings, willow crafts and magical woven creations

Hear ye all Pirates, scallywags, fairy princesses and intrepid young adventurers; Join the crafty weaving crew on a winding journey to make some beautiful festival accessories you can take home and keep! 

The Rubbish Gardeners - join us to make all kinds of beautiful creations from old everyday household items, and display them is our new fabulous rubbish garden.  A great opportunity to see the beauty in things we throw away!

Tug-o-war and madcap challenges

For all budding future Mr. and Ms. Universe, come and flex your strength and teamwork in our mad challenges, and maybe even beat your parents at tug-o-war.

Foxy Socks puppet making workshops

Join the foxy socks crew in the workshop tent each day to learn how to make a different type of puppet, and then help devise a show for performance each evening at our beautiful Punch and Judy style puppet theatre.  See you in the workshop tent every day!

Fancy Dress Themes

Every day is fancy dress day at the Ladybird, with a different theme and loads of different activities about that theme.  This year, Friday is pirate day, Saturday is circus day and Sunday is animal and exploration day - and remember, there are prizes each day for the best dressed family! Remember to dress suitably ridiculously for three nights of family fun!

The Ladybird Grand Carnival on Sunday

Sunday is the day when we get to show off all our fantastic creations to the entire festival! Join us after lunch on Sunday and get ready for a gigantic parade with music, magic, circus, giant puppets, the noisy junk orchestra and all the other fantastic creations of the weekend. This is your opportunity to really show off what creative little bafflingly energetic bundles you are!

Zoe's Zoetrope workshops and other optical illusions.

This year Zoe's Troupe will be making classic zoetropes and you can join us to make the stories that go in them.  There will also be some cool optical illusions to make which you can take with you and show your friends. 

Mad science Experiments

Join Professor Russ van Bunsen and Dr. Pippenburner for a great science street show and the chance to try some fantastic science experiments on Friday. 

Junk Percussion workshop with Aled's Ballads

Get noisily involved!  Everybody can join in and make something to thwack, clang, bash or bing with the Aled's Ballads crew. 

Recycled Jewellery making (and some other cool recycled crafts too)

Necklaces from train tickets?  Keyrings from drinks cans. Come and find out more about these great re-use crafts at the workshop tent every day.
