Kaya has announced today that the MOBO and BRIT award winning FINLEY QUAYE is the latest addition to their line uip.
He hit the UK Top 20 twice with “Sunday Shining”, and “Even After All”. His reputation was established by Maverick A Strike and led directly to the Brit Award victory. The album is now certified multi platinum. This guy cemented himself in to the world of music and has been supported by the likes of Amy Winehouse, Natty, Ken Boothe and Cath Coffey of the Stereo MCs.
Quaye has worked with Osibisa, as well as Iggy Pop, Tricky, Randy Savage, Primal Scream, Lee Scratch Perry and Buju Banton. You can see why he will go down well at Kaya this year!
He will join the likes of Afrika Bambaataa, the legend that represents decades of talent and creativity; from being the leader of the New York street gang Black Spades to creating the global, ground-breaking Universal Zulu Nation in the 70s and spreading the hip hop culture as the Grandfather of hip hop along with legendary artist, Dub Legend and Pioneer, MAD PROFESSOR, SOWETO KINCH, CELOMAN, THABANI BAND, BATCH GUEYE BAND, DRYMBAGO, THE VENUS BUSHFIRES, DOMINGO CANDELARIO, BATALA BANGOR, OL BRASIL DOWNLOADS, JOE DRISCOLLJ, HOWARD MARKS, TROJAN SELECTOR DJS, LEGEND – THE BOB MARLEY TRIBUTE BAND, TALISMAN AND CAPTAIN ACCIDENT plus loads more still to be announced.
Kaya Festival is proud to announce that we shall be sponsoring two charities for this year's festival. The first charity is the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research for Wales Charity. Every 20 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer, that's 30,000 people every year making it the fifth most common form of cancer. These diseases include leukaemia and lymphoma is the most common cause of cancer death in young people, under the age of 35. We hope that by raising awareness at Kaya we can help to support research into treatment and care of people affected.
The second charity is SOS Children’s Village who work endlessly hard to stop more than half a million children ending up alone, abandoned or in institutions. They do this by strengthening families, helping communities, and providing education and healthcare. Secondly, for children who have no other hope of family life, they provide new families for life; these children only have hope thanks to the kindness of child sponsors.
Kaya Festival is proud to announce our support for both charities and hope that together we can highlight and raise money for two such worthy causes.
