I was lucky enough to know John briefly from his days at Off The Tracks. Although only a short period it was long enough to realise that John was one of the nicest, loveliest blokes you could hope to meet. A truly gentle man in a harsh world – the type that don’t come along too often in life. You will be genuinely missed John.

Here’s the Off The Tracks Announcement:
“John Shaw” who has died recently after a short illness. Johns first love was providing ball-by-ball commentary on County Cricket Club matches for the BBC.
His other passion was real live music, John was a long-time supporter of Off The Tracks Festivals. With his unique style, he introduced and was MC for almost all of our festivals over 20 plus years.
His love of live music would radiate from him as he worked back stage with the team. People would ask who is that wonderful MC you have, he would take time to chat to artists and audience a like, he was genuinely interested in their thoughts and well being.
After each festival we would receive a wonderful hand written letter saying what a great weekend it had been and any ideas he had for improvement.
For me personally he supported my musical endeavours on all levels with interviews on radio and playing the CD of whoever I was performing with at any particular time. We first met on “Here be Dragons” and he played a track from our first No Right Turn Album
Our friendship grew from there and as OTT developed he wanted to be part of the festival family with the understanding that he would be able to shoot off to cover his beloved cricket commentary
“He was a very kind man, always ready to chat – and always ready to share”
John Shaw…. When an old cricketer leaves the crease.
John you will be sadly missed.
