Gruff Rhys is a prolific and inventive Welsh musician whose music encompasses a range of styles, including psychedelia, folk and electro-pop. His third album, Hotel Shampoo, won the Artrocker Album of the Year award and the Welsh Music Prize in 2011. Gruff is well known as the singer and main songwriter for Super Furry Animals, and has also formed Neon Neon, an electro-pop collaborative project with Boom Bip. In 2014, Gruff is releasing American Interior, an album, book, film and app, exploring the life of John Evans, who left Wales for north America in 1792 in search of a lost tribe of Welsh-speaking Native Americans.
Allo Darlin’ are an indiepop band based in London, made up of Elizabeth Morris, Bill Botting, Paul Raines and Mike Collins. Their eponymous debut album was released on Fortuna Pop in June 2010 to widespread critical acclaim. Their second album, Europe, was Rough Trade’s best-selling record of 2012 and was highly placed in many best of the year polls, including Rolling Stone, Emusic and Rough Trade. They have spent much of the past three years playing shows and festivals in America and Europe, and are currently working on their third album, expected to be released next year. Indietracks will be their only festival appearance this year, and they will headline the outdoor stage on Friday night.
Around 50 indiepop bands from across the globe will be playing across four stages: the outdoor stage; the indoor stage, the church and on the steam trains themselves. The festival will also host a range of art and craft workshops and a selection of discos after the bands finish. This is the eighth annual Indietracks festival, which takes place at the Midland Railway in Ripley, in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside. The site houses a whole range of lovingly restored steam diesels and locomotives. Festival goers are able to have unlimited rides on the steam railway over the weekend and full access to other railway attractions and museums. Previous headliners at Indietracks have included Teenage Fanclub, Camera Obscura, Edwyn Collins, The Hidden Cameras, The Wedding Present, Los Campesinos!, Summer Camp and The Vaselines.
