With the summer holidays creeping around the corner, parents and grandparents alike will be on the hunt for engaging and exciting events to keep the family entertained during the sunny summer months. Organisers of the Village Pump Folk Festival are thrilled to present a fun-packed family programme for the 2015 festival designed to entertain the whole family, along-side the magical music programme.
There will be a return of some festival favourites, plus the first Village Pump performance of Megson’s Family Folk Show. The award-winning folk duo Megson are excited to perform their gentle, entertaining concert especially for little-uns featuring folk songs old and new from their When I Was A Lad album. Three times nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and double winners of the Spiral Earth Awards, the husband and wife duo bring an infectious mix of heavenly vocals, lush harmonies and driving rhythmic guitars.
Francis Maxey trips and falls through some of the most skilful and funniest clown routines around. Come and see his absurd juggling & balancing and the hilarious tap dance on a table with 1 metre long boots.
Mr. Brown’s Pig will be presenting a highly enjoyable re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo, where Napoleon was defeated by the Anglo-allied army and the Prussians. Using toy soldiers, he’ll explain the nitty gritty of the battle and of Napoleon’s eventual fate. Bristol’s Heroes and Legends will have you asking yourself ‘who is Bristol’s greatest hero?’ Goram and Vincent the giants, the explorer John Cabot, Brunel the great Victorian engineer or even Blackbeard the pirate? How about your mum? This performance celebrates the sung and unsung heroes from Bristol. Mr Brown’s Pig will also be doing some walkabout entertainment whilst dragging the tortoise family around, who have been a firm favourite for years now!
Dangerous Dave of Noisy Oyster is definitely more daft than dangerous. He’ll be joined by his whacky side-kick Herbert Lemon who’ll be performing some of the most mind-bendingly silly stunts ever performed. Marvel as this miniature superhero fights his way out of a wet paper bag and tries to escape the pickled egg jar of doom.
Pumpers will need to be on the look- out for the long arm of the law and the very tall representative of the constabulary as PC Wolly Wobbler parades the grounds of the White Horse Country Park. Wally will bring his highly physical comedy mix of of gentle clowning techniques, mime, circus skills and uninhibited audience participation. His finale needs to be seen to be believed.
Professor Eek will also be on hand to raise a smile as he combines gentle clowning techniques, mime, circus skills and uninhibited audience participation. The award winning Eek the Clown has been delighting children and adults alike with his hysterical antics and his very bad balloon modelling and appalling magic make even the most cynical smile and his interactive approach to working with crowds can enhance any event where 'fun' is the key element.
There are opportunities a-plenty for children to partake in some silliness with Kooky The Clown, Gill’s Parachute Games and for the budding creatives at the festival, there’s Kate’s Krafts where everyone can get involved in some hands on arty fun and Folk of every age will get the chance to dance themselves into a frenzy at the family Ceilidhs – where you’ll learn how to strip the willow and bust many more Celtic moves.
The name of the game is :- let’s get silly in a field, have some fun, and create life-long memories with your family at this year’s Village Pump Folk Festival.
A full-line of family fun will be available on Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th July.
