The next wave of acts have been announced for what is set to be the UK’s most unique, boutique luxury festival, Festival No. 6, taking place from 14th-16th September in stunning Portmeirion, North Wales.
London-born composer and producer Gold Panda will be leading the way with his beautifully mangled electronic beats. Joining him will be ex-Zoo Kid King Krule, Manchester trio and firm favourites The Whip along with Race Horses, Jape, The Early Years, Stealing Sheep, Mary Epworth, Splashh, Marika Nicholls, Roy Wilkinson and The Kane Players.
Carl Barat will be honouring Festival No. 6 with an exclusive festival screening of the Libertines’ film ‘There Are No Innocent Bystanders’. Directed by Roger Sargent, who experienced unique, intimate access to the band, the movie has been hailed by the Sunday Times as ‘a riveting documentary’. Carl will introduce the film, followed by a Q&A session and acoustic versions of a number of Libertines classics.
Art and culture play an integral part of the Festival No. 6 ethos. With this in mind they have handpicked a line up to get every mind thinking. Actor, comedian, pie expert and all round depressed man-child Simon Day will be bringing a couple of his characters with him including one from ‘The Fast Show’.
Reading from his first thriller ‘Cold Hands’ will be John Niven on the Piazza Stage which BBC 6 Music legend Stuart Maconie will be hosting. There will also be performances from one of the most descriptive writers of our time Jan Morris and award winning novelist Ross Raisin. On a completely different tangent, zoologist, filmmaker and writer Lucy Cooke, who has a passion for odd animals, will be on hand to talk about her adventures in the world of the Sloth.
Feminist, award-winning Times columnist and author of the best-selling ‘How to Be a Woman’ Caitlin Moran will be engaging the crowds along with entertainment from the likes of Richard Milward, Evie Wyld, Rob Chapman, Richard King, Rob Young, Roy Wilkinson, Mike Garry, Charlie Boyer and Elliott Roberts.
Beginning his performing career after he quit working in his local Job Centre to become a ranting poet, Nevermind the Buzzcocks team captain and regular QI guest Phil Jupitus is set to be the main attraction on the comedy bill.
Argumental and Live at the Apollo star Marcus Brigstocke is guaranteeing chuckles with his zany take on topics including climate change, loan companies, women’s magazines, the EU and David Blaine.
Shouty Irishman Andrew Maxwell also joins the comedy line-up alongside Andre Vincent, Tony Law, Benny Boot, Paul Myrehaug, Pete Cain, Ben Ven Der Velde, Carrie Quinlan, Wade McElwan and Wes Packer.
Finally, Don’t Tell Stories will take punters on a discovery trail of the secrets, stories, magic and myths that lie in the heart of the exotic Gwylly woods that surround Festival No.6. An enchanting mix of troubadours, story tellers, poets, mystics, puppet mistresses and artists will bring the woods alive with performances, processions, installations, interactive poetry and song-writing experiences. The line-up also includes Theatre of Dolls, Propagating Dan, Ifoundsound, Joyful Joyous Tarot, We Make Hay, The Giant Picnic Blanket and Sara Hurley.
Festival No. 6 is a brand new premium festival concept set in the eccentric surrounds of Portmeirion, where neo-classical architecture collides with sandy beaches and palm trees.
Bands, DJs, musicians and string ensembles will be performing across the entire site, from the historic town hall to the Colonnade gardens to the picturesque bay. The diverse bill ranges from dance to Balearic, funk to folk, seashanties to Welsh male voice choirs. From specially curated stages and dance tents by Electric Elephant and Electric Chair to literary talks by Faber Social, Festival No. 6 has something for everyone.
The sleepy Welsh fantasyland, famous for being the set of cult 60’s TV show ‘The Prisoner’, has never before hosted an event of such breadth and ambition.
Constructed between 1925 and 1975 by maverick architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, Portmeirion is a wonderfully bizarre and elaborate interpretation of a Mediterranean villa, couched in the waters, mountains and forests of North Wales which make up the festival’s perimeter.
The stylish event will seek to offer an added dimension to the often cluttered and repetitive UK festival itinerary by combining a bespoke line-up of iconic and cutting edge musical acts with a truly unique range of alternative activities.
Attendees will get the chance to enjoy cinema screenings, street theatre, prose and poetry readings, midnight masquerades, cliff-top comedy stages, secret parties, impromptu interactive moments and even participate in cultural lectures and debates.
The rugged Welsh landscape will also offer guests the opportunity to get physical with activities including wild swimming, zorbing, clay pigeon shooting and archery.
Catering for a more refined audience, the festival represents a much-needed alternative for a discerning demographic looking to eschew the less welcome and formulaic aspects of the stereotypical festival experience.
Food and drink options range from an indulgent bite at the pop-up Champagne and Oyster bar to a full dinner at the castle’s long table. A whole host of delicious locally sourced and organically grown meals will be available alongside some special guest ales for those looking to sidestep the usual lager and cider offerings.
Curated by the masterminds behind Snowbombing, The Warehouse Project, Lounge on the Farm, Parklife and the directors of Ear to the Ground Production, and Portmeirion Ltd., the festival places an emphasis on the quality of experience like no other.
An intimate boutique music and arts festival, sculpted for those who enjoy life’s finer things, Festival No. 6 is set to be an enchanting and unforgettable experience.
Festival Director Gareth Cooper said: “We’ve found what we hope will become one of the most outstanding and defining boutique festival sites in the world. It’s a totally jaw-dropping, mind-blowing place, offering a premium event aimed at a slightly more mature and discerning crowd. We’re confident it’s going to be one of the most stylish festivals the UK has ever seen."
