Folk Weekend is back after a successful 2012 even bigger and better than before! Folk Weekend Oxford 2013 will be taking place at Old Fire Station, 40 George Street, Oxford, Oxfordshire , OX1 2AQ Fri 19th to Sun 21st April and once again see them infiltrating the city centre with music, dance, and song with additional events for the family this year.

Weekend season tickets cost £48 (£42 concessions, £30 youth, £20 under 12); individual concert and day season tickets are also available. Many of the family activities are FREE.

The Family Ceilidh is back! This time they welcome back 'What's up Folk!' to provide the music. Originating from the classrooms of John Mason School, Abingdon, this group of teenagers has kicked up a storm locally, and will be enjoying themselves on stage just as much as you are on the dancefloor! Don't worry if you've never danced before, there will be an experienced caller to talk you through the moves – just bring comfy shoes and be prepared for a good time!

Continuing the theme of showcasing the next generation of performers, they are very proud to present their 'Offspring' concert series at the Wesley Memorial Church, with performances from instrumental and vocal groups from local primary and secondary schools, as well as  Oxfordshire Music Service groups and youth ensembles. Groups taking part include St Andrew's Primary, West Kidlington Primary, Wolvercote Primary, King Alfred's Academy, Fiddles and Feet, and ALIE.

If you're looking for some guaranteed Family Fun during Folk Weekend, head down to the Oxford Castle Gardens, where you'll find a number of delights awaiting. The Pitt Rivers Museum are visiting us for the first time, but what have they brought with them?! How good are your detective skills? Can you decipher the clues to explore our musical history? You'll also have a chance to get hands-on and make some things of your own.

As if that wasn't exciting enough, Creation Theatre will be running workshops in the Gardens all weekend. You'll have a chance to explore the heroes and villains of some of England’s traditional tales, battle the Sherriff of Nottingham or take your seat at King Arthur’s round table!

If dancing is more your thing, come and have a go with the colourful Maypole! Or perhaps you'll enjoy blowing enormous bubbles with Bubblemania – who are giving away a free pot of bubbles to every visitor!

For the very little ones, there will be more fun and games in the Westgate Children's Library. After huge success last year they welcome back 'Off We Go!' - the captivating children's music show from musicians Jess and Richard Arrowsmith. Take your family along for some nursery songs and rhymes, with plenty of joining in, actions and animal noises. Suitable for babies, toddlers, and big kids of all ages (even grown up ones!). Festival patron Jackie Oates will also be leading a lullabies session for children under four; lots of opportunities to join in with puppets and musical instruments.

And if all that hasn't exhausted you, head over to Gloucester Green for the Oxford Village Fête – try your hand at a fairground game, visit the craft stalls, watch some Morris dancing, or just relax with a cup of tea!
