Last November, Farr Festival hosted a stage at Bristol InMotion for "It’s All Gone Pete Tong". It was on this night, that Dan Pearce (Eats Everything), dropped his Essential Mix live for BBC Radio 1 and we fell a little bit in love with the main man himself...
Would you say that this night was a turning point in your career?
I would definitely say that this was a turning point in my career, very much so. It was an honour to be asked to do it and the response since has been mental. Since I was 14 years old, I have wanted to perform an Essential Mix, so to actually get the chance to record it live, in my home town, and in my favourite club, was quite an amazing thing!
How did you celebrate afterwards?
I went to a house party, but I was so mentally and physically exhausted from the Essential Mix that I had to go home at about 7am. It sounds ridiculous but I was so tired!
We hassled you a lot before your set. Was that annoying?
Not at all!
Speaking of which, has anything weird happened with fans yet?
Unfortunately, I’m still waiting for that to happen. Everyone is really cool, friendly and generally pretty sound to talk to, which is nice!
What’s it like being part of the Dirtybird family?
It’s great. They are such cool people, really talented, fun and interesting. They like nice people and luckily for me I fit into that bracket for them! There is no pretentiousness or hierarchy, just fun times and wicked music.
You often link your social network sites to up and coming artists, who should we be looking out for?
There are loads I like at the moment, the obvious Bristol ones are Lukas, Christophe, Behling & Simpson (they have been in the game a long time but this alias is new so I suppose they are up and coming) and Rio & Prest. Then further afield. I love Thefft, Detroit Swindle, Purple Velvet, XXXY and Damu - I guess the last two aren't really that new, but I love their music. I also love Ardalan and Sepehr from San Francisco, and Cromby from Ireland.Needless to say, I like a lot of peoples’ music!
Have you ever done a DJ set in the woods?
I have, a very long time ago, maybe 1998, so I am really looking forward to becoming at one with nature again!
What is the strangest place you have played?
Bridgewater is pretty strange… (sorry people of Bridgewater!)
You spring from the countryside, what advice would you give any townies who are coming to embrace nature at Farr Festival?
Bring binoculars because you never know what kind of wildlife you may spot. Don't worry about toilet roll as there will be plenty of dockleaves, actually - bring plenty of pants if you don't bring toilet paper, as dock leaves aren't a great substitute in all honesty!
You’ve been in the game for a while now, what advice would you give to any aspiring artists?
Stick to what you do, don't try and make stuff in order to sound like other people. If you make weird shit, keep making weird shit, because weird shit is cool! Buy good monitor speakers, spend as much money as possible on them because they make all the difference. Never give up, you will get there eventually.
How was your American tour? Did you pick up any good souvenirs?
It was immense. If you can call a lovebite from Justin Martin a souvenir then yes I did!
What gigs/festivals are you most excited about this summer?
Farr Festival, obviously! I am doing a lot over the next few months and looking forward to it all. It’s going to be an amazing summer!
You’re our Festival VIP. What do you want us to provide for you backstage? (All answers must be PG)
Guinness, dark rum, ginger ale, a few Meat Liquor burgers and Ronnie Corbett in a bikini, please
Right! we’re giving you three choices and you have to decide which one to Snog, Marry and Avoid:
Julio Bashmore/J Phlip/ Justin Bieber?
Snog: J Bashy
Marry: J Phlip
Avoid: J Biebs
Snog/Marry/Avoid – Burger King/KFC/McDonalds?
Snog: McDonalds (breakfast)
Marry: KFC
Avoid: Burger King
Finally, we were wondering if there was anything that you don’t eat…?
Parsley, celery and mushrooms are three things I definitely won't eat. Not a big fan of avocado either…
