They are delighted to announce Show of Hands - the country’s most popular roots duo and Devon’s proudest musical export ­- return to this year’s festival as new Patrons of Sidmouth Folk Week alongside the mighty Martin Carthy MBE. We do keep the best company!

They will be showcasing some of their favourite material, including songs from their latest studio album Wake The Union which balances the English and North American influences which lie at the heart of the duo’s sound.
 
As well as Show of Hands with Miranda Sykes, highlights of the evening shows at our main festival concert stage, The Ham Marquee include: one of the most enduring and influential artists in British folk music Maddy Prior with Hannah James and Giles Lewin; the breathtaking Flook in a rare appearance the enigmatic presence that is The Spooky Men’s Chorale and Celtic giants Capercaillie.
 
Afternoon shows feature legends of the folk scene alongside legends-in-the-making: the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award-winning Nic Jones Trio; Blowzabella, celebrating 35 years at the helm of European dance music and the combined forces of two inimitable traditional bearers Eliza Carthy and Tim Eriksen.
 
Expect high-energy music and a beautifully bedecked Festival Clubhouse at The Bulverton Marquee with: the best band ever Lau (they have a recent BBC award saying so!); the big-hearted Celtic fusionistas Peatbog Faeries; trailblazers Blowzabella; the joyful Jaipur Kawa Brass Band with their vibrant celebratory sounds from Rajasthan and the newly reborn The Albion Band.

Social Dance Highlights
Social Dance Programme builds its definitive presence at the festival. Special Dance Nights run throughout the week at the custom-built Stowford Rise Community Centre as well nightly in-town dances, morning workshops in Blackmore Gardens and a range of town based workshops through the week. 
 
Ceilidhs

Workshops
Sidmouth FolkWeek is unrivalled in the breadth and depth of the workshops on offer for singers, musicians and dancers - with a warm welcome for both the greenest of novices to masters in their art. Expect old favourites and special surprises.

Folks from 12-25 are welcome to come along with ideas, skills, instruments and inspiration for the Shooting Roots workshops and end of week showcase.

The Best Of Traditional Dance On Show
So much to see here, it’s hard to know where to start… colourful Dance Displays, Processions, Meet The Teams events, Showcases, the legendary Jig Competition and a wealth of workshops covering Rapper, Longsword, Molly, Clog, Cotswold, Border and North West Morris and Appalachian Dance...as well as the informal street displays. Morris Wednesday at the Bulverton Marquee sees the celebratory final-ever performance by Morris Offspring.
