De Montfort Hall has announce further details of their summer music event taking place on 27th and 28th July at De Montfort Hall and Gardens. The event forms part of the Hall’s centenary celebrations and will be headlined by indie rockers The Young Knives. Further performances will come from Jersey Budd and By The Rivers with much more still to be announced.

The Hall was inundated with entries to name the event following the recent You Name It competition and the winning submission came from Terry Potter from Leicester who came up with the name Simon Says. All entrants were asked to give a reason behind their suggestion and Terry stated, “The reason? Obvious I would have thought, Simon De Montfort and the old children's game Simon Says. As in Simon says, come along and enjoy the fun”.

Simon Says is being held in partnership with and programmed by three of Leicester’s best independent music venues; The Musician, Firebug and The Donkey, and the line-up reflects the wealth of musical talent that has grown from the city. Dean Jackson from BBC’s The Beat is also involved and will be programming some highly anticipated BBC Introducing acts into the line-up. The Young Knives, who hail from Ashby de la Zouch, are best known for their energetic live performances and have remained proud of their roots, even naming their last album Ornaments of the Silver Arcade in reference to the city’s shopping centre. The band are now working on new material for their 5th album, with this headline appearance a rare chance to see them live this summer.

Further performances will come from Leicester favourite Jersey Budd, who is on top form following his recent support slot with Kasabian at The Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust and his sold-out solo show at The Y Theatre. Alongside him will be new age reggae band By The Rivers, who have garnered a staunch following in Leicester and beyond since forming in 2010. With a brand new album on the horizon this is an exciting time for the band.

This is only the very tip of what is set to be a fantastic weekend of musical talent, with much more to be announced soon. With indoor and outdoor entertainment, the event will take place in De Montfort Hall and Gardens, with many acts relishing the opportunity to play on De Montfort Hall’s main stage. General Manager Antony Flint stated, “We wanted to hold an event that would celebrate the Hall’s history with the local music scene and Simon Says is just that. It’s been great working with the guys from The Musician, The Donkey and Firebug and they’ve put together a fantastic programme for the weekend”.
