Thousands of fans have flocked to The O2 in London over the past week to celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence. The two-week cultural extravaganza is drawing to a close on Monday August 6th - the exact date of Jamaican independence half a century ago.
Jimmy Cliff will be headlining the gala night on August 6th, including secret guest performances, as the inidgO2 venue stakes its claim as the place to be to celebrate the anniversary.
Additional highlight performances still to come include sets from the likes of Toots & The Maytals, Shaggy, Horace Andy, Johnny Clarke, Michael Prophet and Morgan Heritage.
Iconic Jamaican film screenings also continue on-site, including The Story of Lover’s Rock, Rise Up, Fire in Babylon, The Harder They Come, Ghett’a Life and Bob Marley.
Reggae legends including Damian Marley, Tappa Zukie, John Holt, Mighty Diamonds, Freddie McGregor, Tarrus Riley and Gyptian have already brought a little Caribbean sunshine to the banks of North Greenwich.
A host of other legendary Jamaican singers, DJs, writers, comedians, actors and poets continue to congregate to showcase the cultural depth and diversity of the nation.
For those in search of a chuckle, some of the finest talent in Jamaican comedy will be providing the laughs for the crowds at Proud2 until August 6th.
