Picturesque launch for next Coastival event
Take a Different View of Scarborough – that was the message spelt out today as Coastival officially launched its next major arts event.
Oliver’s Mount was the location for the launch of the programme for Coastival – A Different View, which will take place in Scarborough on 16th February.
A total of 44 events and attractions are being lined up including music icon Boy George playing a DJ set at the Spa, video mapping on the side of the Spa complex, and a whole range of entertainment, arts and activities for children and young people.
Create Director Wendy Holroyd said: “Our theme for the next Coastival is ‘light’ and in particular a desire for people to take a different view of the arts and a different view of Scarborough.
“What better place to launch our programme than on top of one of Scarborough’s highest landmarks, where people really do get a different view of Scarborough.
“We are really pleased with the programme we have for Coastival – A Different View. What started as a one-day event has grown and we are delighted that there will now be things to see and do throughout February.”
Boy George (DJ set) will headline Club Coastival, a fantastic evening of music and lightshows at the Spa. He will be appearing alongside his VG Records partner and fellow DJ/Producer Marc Vedo (DJ set) and Holotronica, a combined music and 3D hologram experience.
Club Coastival will run from 10pm to 2.30am at the Spa Grand Hall. Early bird tickets are currently on sale.
Earlier in the evening, from 6pm, the Spa complex will be the venue for an exciting demonstration of video mapping when world-renowned experts Lumens project striking images and animations on to the side walls of the building.
There will be lots more music, including the Acoustic Lounge in the Spa from 4pm and “busk stops” around the complex, as well as free films and activities for children.
At various other venues across Scarborough there will be gallery concerts, classical music, theatre, arts installations and exhibitions, some of which will continue for the remainder of February.
