Recently launched on Noisey, Clive Martin’s hugely successful Vice column has been transformed into a six-part video series.
Starting life as a series of articles on Vice ‘Big Night Out’ is Clive’s frontline dissection of British nightlife, exploring how and why people party in the way they do. In it’s written form, ‘Big Night Out’ has covered everything from the ‘Britain’s Biggest Lads’ scene to Goths, and the gang from TOWIE. Like Whicker’s World for the YouTube generation, ‘Big Night Out’ in video takes viewers into the inebriated, dark heart of the UK club scene and meets some of its most nuanced and devout subcultures, spanning indie loyalists in London, to Drum n' Bassheads in Reading. In the second episode, journalist Clive Martin ventures into the little-understood world of Psytrance. He stumbles across a forest rave deep in the English countryside, and finds himself dodging swinging dreadlocks, hula hoops and an army of poi.
“We always knew we had to make a video of ‘Big Night Out’. Something about the cavernous, unfolding nature of clubs, and the weird people we met in them, couldn’t really be conveyed by still photos alone. And more excitingly, video gave us the ability to show what is at the true heart of these nights out - the music” - Clive Martin
