Would you like to be a part of next year’s exciting Scarborough Coastival 2014 event? Then here’s your chance. Organisers of the three-day arts festival are looking for volunteers to help ensure the event runs smoothly. And in return, volunteers will play a key role in what promises to be a fantastic arts event in Scarborough.

Coastival 2014 will feature 100 activities – 80 of them free – spread across three days from 14th to 16th February. One of the highlights will be Orpheus the Mariner, a huge performance on 14th and 15th February featuring giant puppets and including a record attempt for the largest puppet in the world. Coastival 2014 will feature music, theatre, arts, dance and entertainment for children, all based around the theme of movement.

Coastival Volunteer Co-ordinator Helen Berry said: “We need a team of committed, enthusiastic, hard-working and fun loving people to help us make this fantastic event a success. “Coastival volunteers will be involved in the front of house elements of the festival, including  stewarding, manning the information desk, welcoming visitors, checking tickets, box office, sales and generally making visitors feel welcome.

“It is a fantastic event to be involved in and for anyone interested in developing a career in event management or arts administration it is an excellent opportunity to gain work experience.

“If you would like to be part of the team delivering this major festival, see some fantastic events, meet new people, have fun, gain useful work experience and have a good time whilst working hard we would love to hear from you.” To find out more about volunteering, ask any questions or to request an application form, contact Helen at [email protected]

On the Saturday and Sunday there will be fabulous Acoustic Lounge sessions on offer both days, all free at Farrer’s Bar down at the Spa Complex.

Folk rock singer-songwriter Antonio Lulic will headline the Acoustic Lounge concert on Saturday 15th February. Then the Beastie Drummers will top the bill for the Acoustic Lounge concert on Sunday 16th February.

Elsewhere, Coastival 2014 will feature lots more music plus theatre at the Hull University Scarborough Campus, dance and dance workshops at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, a great selection of films at the Spa, plus street performance, visual arts and installations, travelling theatre, free arts and craft objects to find and keep, drop-in lantern making, walkabout performance art, literary lunches, a teeny weeny cinema in a caravan and lots more.

For younger people, the Stephen Joseph Theatre will host the Comedy Club 4 Kids and a children’s comedy workshop and there will be other Rollercoastival events for younger people too.
