Indie-pop legends Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine are to headline Friday night at Bearded Theory Festival 2014.
The performance will be a UK festival exclusive and signals the latest major coup for Bearded Theory, which will be held at its new location, Catton Hall in South Derbyshire, over Bank Holiday weekend May 22-25.
Carter USM had six top thirty albums (four of which went top ten) and fourteen top forty hits from 1987-1997. After a ten year break they reformed for two shows in 2007 at Brixton Academy and Glasgow Barrowlands. Both shows sold out and the Brixton show sold all five thousand tickets in a few days.
They returned in 2008 for further sell out shows at Birmingham and Brixton Academy then 2009 saw ‘The Drum Machine Years’ where they played their first four albums at the sold-out Kentish Town Forum and Brixton 02 Academy.
In 2011 they sold out a further two shows at Brixton Academy and Manchester Academy and triumphantly rejoined the festival circuit.
Also confirmed are former Crass frontman Steve Ignorant with Paranoid Visions, the Dublin anarcho punk outfit who were a key force in the second wave of punk rock in the early 80's, and heavily influenced by the Crass ethic of DIY music.
They join an impressive bill which already features Ian Dury’s former band The Blockheads, Joy Division/New Order main man Peter Hook and his band The Light, award-winning folk-rock outfit Oysterband and US rock-fusion veterans Fishbone.
Also confirmed are reconvened UK favourites King Prawn and The Membranes, with more big announcements including further headliners still to come.
The move to Catton Hall, home of Bloodstock Open Air and the Big Session festivals, means Bearded’s organisers can take full advantage of a four-day event, with music starting on Thursday May 22nd and continuing through the Bank Holiday weekend until late on Sunday 25th.
Tickets are now on general sale, with the price of a family ticket cheaper than it was in 2013. A payment plan is available to spread the cost and – representing even further value for money – Bearded Theory remains one of a dwindling number of festivals where the audience can take their own drink into the concert areas.
Bearded Theory weekend tickets are now on sale with adult tickets priced at £87 + booking fee. No day tickets will be made available.
