Another year and another incredible line up is announced for Underage Festival.  Rather than feeling a year older, we’ve decided to go a year younger and Underage Festival is now open to 13 year olds for the first time cementing its reputation as the worlds most credible event for teenagers.

"We are delighted to be in our 5th year and wanted to celebrate this by opening it up to a younger audience, after gathering feedback from past festival goers whose younger friends have been disappointed they can’t get tickets, we welcome 13 year olds for the first time at this year’s Underage Festival. It’s a great opportunity for those that love music to come and experience their first ever festival"  Tom Baker - Eat Your Own Ears

And with tickets at £31.50 for this calibre of line up the event continues to be ‘the’ destination for music loving teens.

Headlining Underage Festival are Bombay Bicycle Club who make a triumphant return having first played the show in 2008.  With two, much lauded albums under their belts and an eagerly anticipated third album due this summer Bombay Bicycle Club are the finest exponents of anti-aging, indie pop whose tales chronicle just what it means to be young and restless in the city.  Their carefree, youthful exuberance and boyish charm mark them out as the perfect headliners for this year show.

Having MIA headline last year was some coup and Underage are proud to secure Janelle Monae for 2011.  A true musical visionary, this cyborg disco diva takes her conceptual soul music to far out places.  Championed by Outkast’s Big Boi and P Diddy, Janelle’s music is stunningly ambitious and her performance is set to be a must see moment of this 5th Birthday celebration.

Revisiting the rougher end of Brit Pop are Brother whose self titled ‘Grit Pop’ has seen them compared to Oasis and their bolshy rock n’roll swagger ensures guitar bands will still have a big say in the charts this year.  These boys graced the first NME cover of the year and their stadium rock anthems are set to ring out across Victoria Park.Bright, breezy ultra colourful pop songs are the staple of CocknBullKid as her band raise merry funk hell whilst enigmatic star Devlin continues to raise the bar for a new generation of grime musicians with his vigorous flow and punching lyrics.  Crystal Fighters unique sound has been described as Basquetronic and their euphoric live performances are the stuff of legend.

Florrie is the multi talented 21 year old drummer, singer, songwriter and guitarist who remixes her own tracks.  Her bold, attention grabbing pop music is big on ideas and not shy of an explosive chorus.  She remains staunchly unsigned and independent, gives her music away to fans for free and has amassed an army of young followers.

One of the stars on last year’s Underage Festival was Fugative, the 16 year old who seemingly came from nowhere to enrapture the Underage audience with his looks, hooks, colourful rhymes and beats that belie his tender years.  Unknown no more, Fugative is back by popular demand to perform tracks from his ‘No Goin’ Home’ album. Sunderland band Frankie and the Heartstrings make music of an altogether different leaning and continue to put the lead in the pencil for fans of proper indie whilst fellow north east band The Chapman Family play tracks from their debut album ‘Burn Your Town.

Ghost Eyes hip-hop influenced alternative music is in stark contacts to that of Giggs, king of the mixtape and purveyor of rugged home truths; this XL Recordings signed street artist / rapper tells is how it is.

Labrinth holds the distinction of being the first non talent show act signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco label in 6 years.  Find out why the Tinie Tempah collaborator is causing such as stir at this year’s festival.

With well over 10 million YouTube views comedy sensations The Midnight Beast showcase their hilarious musical parodies of Ke$ha, Jay Sean and Chipmunk whilst singer and rapper Maverick Sabre continues his bold quest to make “Classic Music” that appeals to ravers and fans of guitar music.  This Professor Green collaborator’s debut album is imminent and he is eager to road test it live to the legions of excitable teens at Underage.

Roll Deep had an incredible 2010 with two number 1 anthems ‘Good Time’ and ‘Green Light’.  Headed up by urban legend Whiley and having been a successful springboard for previous members such as Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder, Roll Deep are the most consistently vital collective on the circuit and a mighty live force.

18 year old Spark is going to be big news this year with her synth and guitar led, naggingly infectious pop whilst multi talented DJ and singer, Yasmin will display her R n’ B and hip-hop, party cuts.  No one knows anything about Yaaks but that hasn’t stopped their track HRHRHYTHM being played by Zane Lowe, Rob da Bank, Huw Stephens and Fearne Cotton on Radio 1.  Discover more at the Underage festival.

With many more acts to be announced, Underage continues to provide a platform for the most ground breaking artists to perform in front of a rapturous teen audience.
