Jersey Folklore Festival 2015 | ||
14th Jun 2015 Val de la Mare, La Route du Moulin, St Peter, Jersey, JE2 6PN, United Kingdom |
Tickets for adults (without camping) from £46.00 |
Following the recent news that Folklore is to return to Jersey’s shores after a three-year hiatus – featuring artists including James, Reef, Gentleman’s Dub Club, Lloyd Yates, Dreadzone and The Doors Alive on the Main Stage at its new home at Val De La Mare, St Peter,the festival has also confirmed the return of the Agapanthus Stage.
The Agapanthus Stage is presented in partnership with Jersey Arts Trust and in 2012 hosted a rich array of musical, comedy and spoken word talents, including John Cooper Clarke, Edward Aczel and John Shuttleworth.
Shuttleworth, aka Graham Fellows, returns to Folklore this June armed with his trusty Yamaha keyboard and a hatful of comedy classics including ‘Pigeons in Flight’, ‘Can’t Go Back to Savoury Now’ and ‘Two Margarines’.
The Agapanthus Stage will be headlined, however, by an altogether different musical act, and someone who has been getting music industry insiders incredibly excited for some time now, Jake Isaac. The South London singer songwriter has recently released Where We Belong, the follow-up to last year’s critically acclaimed War Child EP, on Elton John’s Rocket label, written with Ed Sheeran collaborators Jake Gosling and Chris Leonard, and his soulsoaked folk stylings have already draw comparisons with the likes of James Bay and John Newman.
It’s not all about the music of course, there’s more comedy in the form of Pete Heat, who brings his hilarious brand of magic and mindreading to the Agapanthus Stage at Folklore.
The Agapanthus Stage wouldn’t be complete without our local acts, and there are many of them; Esther Rose Parkes Judy Mantle, Sharon Champion, Juliette Hart, Linda Rose Parkes and Nicky Mesch are much loved and respected Jersey poets and will be reading at Folklore. They are always excited to showcase young local talent at Folklore, and they don’t come much more talented than 17 year-old guitarist Samuel Walwyn, who won two Platinum Awards at the 2014 Jersey Eisteddfod; astoundingly gifted technically, his guitar work truly has to be seen to be believed.
A celebration of rock, folk, reggae and dub artists, as well as alternative music, comedy and poetry, Folklore has a capacity of just 4,000 and in 2012 saw unforgettable performances from the legendary Van Morrison, Ray Davies, Lee Scratch Perry and Joan Armatrading. In 2013 Jersey Live presented the Folklore Stage with performances from the likes of John Cooper Clarke, Dry The River and The Specials’ Neville Staple, and this year’s line up features a richly diverse musical offering once again.
Set in the perfect natural Amphitheatre of Val De La Mare and against the backdrop of the idyllic St Ouen’s Bay, Folklore offers the perfect location to enjoy a diverse and imaginative array of live music under the setting western sun, in the run up to Summer Solstice. Laid-back, relaxed and intimate, Folklore is sure to be the warmest and friendliest celebration of creative arts in Jersey this summer.

Co-organiser Warren Holt: “The Agapanthus Stage was a huge hit at the very first Folklore and we’re really pleased to be bringing it back in 2015 with the support of Jersey Arts Trust. As well as once again showcasing some of Jersey’s finest literary talents, we’ve got some hilarious comedians, the return of the iconic John Shuttleworth, and a superb headliner in Jake Isaac, who I’m sure people will be hearing much more about over the next 12 months.
