THE LONG WALK - TWO GIANTS OF THE LIVE MUSIC BIZ TAKE ON THE ULTIMATE JOURNEY FOR CHARITY

LIVE NATION'S JOHN PROBYN (COO) AND PAUL LATHAM (CEO) TAKE ON A 5 DAY, 144 MILE WALK TO RAISE MONEY FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK

WALKING FROM THE DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL TO HYDE PARK, HOME OF WIRELESS, HARD ROCK CALLING AND BT LONDON LIVE

Titans of the live music and entertainment industry, John Probyn and Paul Latham of Live Nation, today announced that they will undertake their first ever long walk. This will be a charity fundraiser, in the form of a courageous long haul journey called THE LONG WALK. The event is a 144 mile walk from Donington to Hyde Park starting on the 11 June to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

THE LONG WALK will take five days and see them walk 144 miles from Download festival’s site in Donington Park to Hyde Park, London, where Live Nation are organizing a series of music and entertainment events. The Long Walk will include a picturesque 88 mile stretch of the Grand Union Canal and back up facilities on Canal boats are already in place.

Putting on a brave face, John Probyn stated: “Cancer Research UK is a charity that Live Nation has supported for some time and Iwanted to do something personally.  I’m never going to climb a mountain or cycle across the desert, but I’m very good at putting one foot in front of the other.  It’s 144 miles past 73 pubs, what could possibly go wrong?!”

Paul Latham added: “I am forever grateful that my family and I are in reasonable health. However I never take that for granted, nor forget those who are not so lucky. A few blisters, aches and abstention from Guinness for a year is a small price to pay to raise money for the great work Cancer Research UK does... One step at a time”!!

Jools Tait, Director of Partnerships at Cancer Research UK, said: “We’re grateful for the continuing support of Live Nation and we wish John and Paul all the best for their epic walk.  Their efforts will help to raise important funds forCancer Research UK’s life-saving work.”

After walking 144 miles along A and B roads, canals etc, John and Paul will eventually arrive in Hyde Park where Live Nation are staging three key live events this summer: Barclaycard Wireless Festival on July 6-8 with headliner Rihanna, Hard Rock Calling July 12-15 headliner Bruce Springsteen.  This is followed by and BT London Live, which will feature giant screens over 15 free to access days of culture and musical entertainment celebrating the London 2012 Olympics.

All money raised from THE LONG WALK will be donated to Live Nation’s associated charity, Cancer Research UK

THE LONG WALK will begin 9 am on Monday 11 June! To donate please visit http://www.justgiving.com/TLW and give generously.
