Summer Sundae Weekender 2011 Event Info

Summer Sundae Weekender is a festival of 7,000 people set in Leicester’s De Montfort Hall and Gardens from 12th to 14th August 2011. Now in its eleventh year, the event has grown from a modest one - day affair headlined by Morcheeba and Lambchop into an award- winning three-day festival with camping. The event is often lauded for managing to keep the intimate, relaxed feel which launched its success. Having played host to Patti Smith, David Byrne, Amy Winehouse, Elbow and Belle and Sebastian among countless others Summer Sundae is also praised for having an eclectic line-up which last year ranged from Seasick Steve to Tinchy Stryder and from Eliza Doolittle to Mumford and Sons.
Held in the centre of Leicester, Summer Sundae is unique in bringing a green-field festival experience to an easily accessible urban location. Situated less than 10 minutes’ walk from the city’s train station, this also affords the festival excellent green credentials with over 50% of the audience arriving to the event by sustainable transport.

In the natural amphitheatre of our Main Arena is situated our Main Stage. This focal point of the festival has seen performances from Seasick Steve, Bon Iver, Supergrass and many more over the years and will host a great line-up again in 2011. Our second space is the Indoor Stage at De Montfort Hall, which provides a unique alternative to the traditional festival experience and is in easy reach of the all-important indoor flushing toilets!

In addition to this they also have the Rising, Musician and Cabaret tents which house a host of acts over the three days. Nestled in between these areas you will also find The Village which contains our famous Real Ale & Cocktail bars, plus traders and food stalls to suit every taste! Be sure to also check out The Garden and Kidzone to get the most from your Summer Sundae experience.
The main campsite is in Victoria Park situated near to the Village Area and the Rising Stage. Bearing in mind its closeness to the Village, this tends to be our most lively campsite. For those with young children, or who perhaps prefer to have a quieter, less frenetic tent pitch the campsite by Regent’s College is the one for you. This campsite also has a few extra toilets and showers too! And if you are not the camping type, be sure to check out our new Glamping opportunities provided this year by Hotel Bell Tent, or take your pick from the host of hotels within easy walking distance from the festival.

Car

De Montfort Hall is situated at the top of Regent Road on the edge of Victoria Park. Located just one mile south of Leicester’s City Centre, the Hall is well signposted on the inner ring road. If using the M1 come off at junction 21 and follow the signs for the outer ring road (Leicester South and East A563), turning left along the A50 or A6 when signposted.

Parking
If you really do need to bring the car and you’ve been before, you’ll know that parking around the festival site can be difficult. Unfortunately there’s not all that much they can do about this – despite having a lovely green field site, they are in an urban setting and as the festival has become more and more popular, the demand for parking has increased too.
On the street, the roads around the Hall have parking meters. Charges are Monday-Saturday 7am to 6pm £3, free from 6pm to 7.30am, free all day Sunday. These spaces are generally in use during weekdays.

There is also the pay and display car park and some extra parking at Regent College next to DMH but spaces are very limited and once it’s full, it’s full. It’s charged at £15 for the weekend, first come first served. A number of places are reserved for blue badge holders but again they are limited and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
