Roman River Music Festival 2015 Overview

The Roman River Festival: world class music in beautiful and charismatic locations in North Essex. Most of their concerts take place in beautiful, intimate venues where no-one is more than a few yards from the performers.

The 16th festival will welcome over 100 renowned musicians to coastal Essex, including the sensational young American violinist Elena Urioste (above) as musician-in-residence, for recitals, chamber music, world premieres, orchestral and choral concerts, folk, jazz, world music, a vein of new music running through the festival, and a new series of canvases by their 2015 festival artist John Doubleday.

There are many amazing concerts but in particular they’d recommend international stars Sergio Tiempo, Sally Matthews, Roman Simovic, Elena Urioste, Mark Padmore, the Sacconi Quartet, the Britten Sinfonia, Tim Hugh, Gwilym Simcock and David Blackadder.

There’s music for all tastes, from Handel’s Messiah and Bach violin music, via jazz from the wonderful Joe Stilgoe (above), celtic folk from Will McNicol and Luke Selby, Brahms and Sibelius played by the festival orchestra – to new music from Sir Peter Maxwell Davis and the fabulous young composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad.
