The Idiot Bastard Band is a band dedicated to the comic song. A veritable supergroup of comic musical talent, they see themselves in the same tradition as people like The Bonzos, They Might Be Giants, Flight of the Conchords, and even George Formby.

They play a changing set of songs (they never play the same set twice):

Half of them are new self-penned compositions, like Phill’s comic ballad about a disastrous support slot on a tour with Madness, Neil’s new Mexicana take on the classic love triangle, Ade’s song about what it’s like to be completely pissed waiting for your wife to open the door at four in the morning, and Rowland’s ridiculous tribute to the drummer Sandy Nelson.

…and half of them are forgotten gems like She Got A Nose Job (A floppy vinyl release that came free with Mad Magazine in the 60’s), Isabel Makes Love Upon National Monuments by Jake Thackeray, and even the not so forgotten There Ain’t Half Been Some Clever Bastards by Ian Dury.

History of the Band:

During the winter of 2010/2011 they held a raucous 8-week residency at The Wilmington Arms in Clerkenwell. Famously advertised as ‘Live Rehearsals’ the packed shows were a heady mixture of excitement and catastrophe, at once fabulously warm, surprising and hilarious.

They did a similar residency earlier this year at The Water Rats in Kings Cross, where again they went down exceedingly well. So they’re taking the show out on the road to have some fun…
