The Biggest Act in the UK
West Country singer songwriter Jinder has become the biggest act in the UK by signing a solo record deal with Mighty Village Records part of Universal Records. At a gigantic 6-foot 7-inches tall, Jinder is now the tallest solo act in the UK.
Signing a deal as a solo act for the first time, Jinder at 31 years-old, takes the title as tallest UK solo act, being two inches taller than the 6’5” hight of Fish lead singer of 80’s megaband Marillion, and three inches taller than Jon McClure of Reverend and the Makers. Long John Baldy also at 6’7” originally held the title for over 50 years until his death in 2005.
Growing up in a Warwickshire Village just over the hill from Cropredy where his father’s drinking buddies included Fairport Convention’s Dave Pegg and Dave Swarbrick, Jinder was destined to end up in music, but his height always intrigued him. Jinder explained; “Neither of my parents are particular tall, so I looked into it. It might be that I am descended from the Native American Sihasapa (the Blackfoot Sioux) who lived on the great plains of the western Dakotas. My Great, Great grandfather fell in love with a woman in the tribe and brought her back to the UK and married her. I think they were known to be a tall race.”
Jinder’s debut solo single ‘Keep Me In Your Heart’ will be released on 24 September 2012 and follows a decade of minor success as a member of various bands. In 2002 he reached the lower reaches of the chart in the UK with cult indie outfit Candlefire. In 2006 Jinder formed The Mercurymen and signed to Arista but the album failed to materialise. Jinder explains: “Our album was never released and we were dropped. It was a really depressing time for me, and I questioned whether it was my fault. On a number of occasions I’d overheard that my height made me look like a freak.” In 2011 his solo journey began.
The result is his debut solo album ‘Crumbs Of Comfort’. Ten songs of love and longing, trials and tribulations, rain and shine, finding redemption in daily life and hopeful jubilation down the back of the sofa.
‘Keep Me In Your Heart’ will be released on 24 September 2012 on Mighty Village Records.
