Nokia’s ‘Lumia Live’ showcase lit up Sheffield’s Devonshire Green on Friday night as Reverend and the Makers and True Tiger opened the main stage at Tramlines, the free-for-all music festival.

As Sheffield’s own Reverend and the Makers performed their final song, ‘Silence is Talking’, Xylobandsä illuminated the crowd from the wrists of 8,000 ecstatic festival goers. This was the first time the illuminated bands had been used at any music festival in the world.

A high-octane set by DJ collective, True Tiger, followed as a spectacular light show on two big screens accompanied the flashing Xylobandsä, in an electric start to the festival weekend.

First seen during Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto Tour, the unique Xylobandsä ensured that the audience truly became an integral part of the Tramlines opening night experience. Jason Regler, the inventor of Xylobandsä said, “It was amazing to once again see how well the bands worked in an outdoor venue and how they enhanced the festival experience. The unity and positive energy is overwhelming at times, with the Xylobands almost controlling the atmosphere.  It was so nice to see so many people having a great time.  We were thrilled to be a part of Nokia’s lightshow, particularly at a great free festival like Tramlines”.

For Nokia, Xylobandsä and last night’s show represent a progression in their ‘Lumia’ story. John Nichols, Head of Marketing, Nokia UK commented, “We really brought the Lumia light to Sheffield- kicking off this great festival with a stunning show that connected the local community to one of the city’s favourite bands.”

Tramlines festival continues throughout the weekend, with popular venues Plug and DQ playing host to Nokia’s ‘Lumia Live’ gigs. These not only feature local talent such as Blood Sport and Danny Beck, but also legendary artists like UK garage DJ/producer MJ Cole.

Nokia Lumia owners can also get a ‘Sheffield Showcase’ playlist on Nokia Mix Radio- the free music service, featuring the best music from the famous music city.
