Hard Times stormed back into action with an unforgettable party over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend, proving why they are ‘the original and still the best’. The event saw David Morales create an electric atmosphere instilled by the huge US & vocal house big hitters that were being consistently dropped, firmly placing Hard Times back in the UK clubbing calendar. Hard Times founder Steve Rainequoted “it is still all about the people, the music and having a good time” and feedback from the night truly depicted this.
Hard Times was born in 1993 by the founder & pioneer, Steve Raine and was quickly engineered into one of the biggest house nights in the country specialising in US house and garage. An accolade which not many other nights can boast is one of being one of the first club nights in the UK to start their own independent Hard Times record label, selling tracks worldwide and remaining, to this day, one of the most respected in the industry. In the past 19 years Hard Times have provided memories for countless clubbers across the length and breadth of the UK leading them to be voted Mixmags ‘Best Club’ in 1994. From their first anniversary in Huddersfield with Kenny Dope & Louie Vega playing on four decks and 2 mixers to the best collection of DJ’s under one roof at any one time at Bagley’s film studio in London, Hard Times have never failed to deliver deranged nights of euphoria and passion on a local and on an international level.
Sunday 26th August sees the legendary club night return to The Warehouse, Leeds for a very special bank holiday event as they celebrate their 19th anniversary. To add to the celebrations Hard Times are flying in one half of the ‘Masters at Work’ (one of the most successful partnerships in modern music), Louie Vega, who blew the roof of their first anniversary back on the 6th August 1994.
Louis Vega, often known as "Little" Louie Vega, is an NYC-based music producer and recording artist, best known for his house music productions, spreading vibrant rhythms from some of the planet’s most diverse musical hotspots. By 1985, Louie began playing house and block parties in his local Bronx neighbourhood of New York, as well as making a name for himself through production and remixing. His first nightclub residency was at the Devil's Nest, in the Bronx, and later he moved to Roseland, Studio 54 and the Palladium in Manhattan. During the 1990s, Louie was playing at one of the most influential nightclubs for house music, The Sound Factory Bar. The Grammy Award-winning DJ, producer, songwriter, label owner and tireless champion of house & world music is quite frankly the quintessential music professional and he will without doubts provide the Hard Times masses with an awe inspiring performance. Having released the US house classic ‘The Hard Times March’ alongside Kenny Dope under their ‘200 Sheep’ alias on the Hard Times label in 1995, it is without question that Louie Vega is a fitting headline act to perform at the iconic club nights 19th anniversary.
