Following a year that’s seen his band grow from strength to strength and become one of the most hotly tipped pop-punk acts in the UK, Decade front man Alex Sears is showing no signs of slowing down his prolific creative output by starting 2013 with the release of yet another EP from his side-project sophomore.

The first track from the release 'Young Adult'  here..

Released under the front man’s alias sophomore, through which he’s already released a free 3 track EP and covers of Lana Del Rey’s Blue Jeans and Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime (all still available on the bandcamp here, the material sees a slight departure from the regular Decade fare and leaves him free to explore his songwriting and creative flair.

With sophomore, Alex is free to let his imagination run wild. He programs the drums, writes and plays all of the guitar, bass and vocal parts and is responsible for every single piece of production and musical input on the records. Far from bragging about it, Sears is more familiar with hiding his increasingly bright light under a fairly big bushel and is typically modest when talking about the level of creativity that goes into a release like this, especially considering the incredibly fast turnaround on his new material.

"Sophomore is more or less just a way to flex my creative muscles," says Sears "I love having the option to write any style of music that I want, without the restraint that you might get with a full band each with their own voice and opinion. The songs on this EP are about a number of different things that have been going on in my life over the past couple of months or so."

"The beauty of writing and recording your own music by entirely your own means is that you can share your feelings and emotions with someone instantly; I could write a song today and put it out tomorrow while the theme of the song is still fresh in my mind. It's a good way to vent for sure." "If there is enough interest surrounding this EP then I'd love to do some live shows later on in the year, providing I could find musicians that would deal with me having total creative control!" he laughs.
