BETTER LATER… THAN NEVER
BETH HART SECURES PERFORMANCE ON LATER WITH JOOLS HOLLAND AFTER 20 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS
NEW ALBUM ‘BANG BANG BOOM BOOM’ OUT NOW
Beth Hart, will tonight reach a milestone in her career when she performs on BBC2 Later With Jools Holland (her first appearance on UK TV) 20 years after she started her music career. The appearance coincides with the release of her new album ‘Bang Bang Boom Boom’ this week on Mascot Label Group.
Now proud to be 40 years old, the West Coast born singer, songwriter and musician Beth Hart is proof that, despite nearly loosing it all, perseverance can pay off. Tonight Beth will record two tracks from her new album on Later With Jools Holland: ‘Bang bang Boom Boom’ and ‘Baddest Blues’.
This is a remarkable comeback for Beth, whose initial rise to stardom 20 years ago on a US TV Talent show not only bagged her $100,000 and householdrecognition, but also a downward spiral into drug addiction. Beth explains,“It’s frightening looking back to see how easily out of control you can get. Success out of nowhere comes with immense pressure and bravado and it took me a long while to understand my own part in this. I look at the brilliant Amy Winehouse and it scares me that that could so easily have happened to me. I’m just thrilled to still be here doing what I love to do. I can’t wait to perform at Jools’ piano – I‘ve been watching the show for years and his guests are legendary. It’ll be an honour.”
A reversal of fortune came for Beth Hart in the shape of blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa. His 2011 album ‘Don’t Explain’ with Hart on vocals shot into the UK top 10 and started a voyage of discovery for Beth as a new territory embraced her and she in turn fell in love with the sound of blues.
Featuring eleven stunning blues, jazz and soul influenced tracks, penned by Beth Hart, ‘Bang Bang Boom Boom’ is a life-changing record for the West Coast born singer, songwriter and musician. All of her life experiences, both positive and negative have come together for this career defining album.
The eleven original songs recorded live by Kevin Shirley, on this new collection give Beth’s eclectic influences free rein, spinning from Spirit Of God’s brassy gospel to the sparse Thru The Window Of My Mind, with her first-ever piano solo on Swing My Thing Back Around, and an impossibly tender vocal on the Billie Holiday-flavoured Baddest Blues.
But with a West Coast drawl that could distil whisky at fifty paces, and fans including Jeff Beck and Slash, this woman of rock has finally emerged a lady… For Beth, the track ‘Everything Must Change’ explains it all: “I have this fascination with the old adage that it’s darkest before dawn. It implies so much hope. That song is an important one to me on the record. We all go through ups and downs, but what always brought me back was that I’ve been surrounded by so much love.”
