Jalapeno Records is a label that prides itself on eclectic music with a strong seam of soul and funk running through it. Genre is unimportant provided that it’s got the Jalapeno Funk. No artist embodies the spirit of Jalapeno as much as its founders Elliot Ireland and Alex Rizzo collectively known as Skeewiff.

Having had a stint signed to Ministry of Sound in the mid-nineties the Skeewiff boys found themselves the delighted proprieters of a worldwide number one hit under the name Shaft (Mucho Mambo) and with the proceeds of said hit kitted out their studios and set up their own label Jalapeno.

Three albums on Jalapeno followed before the boys went on to set up their Pedigree Cuts imprint following in the footsteps of their heroes like Alan Hawkshaw (who features on the album) and other lounge legends by creating a library music company where all the different strands of their output would have one home.

The album is a joyous blend of impeccable production, astonishing taste and the now rare ability to not take yourself too seriously. Hammond belters sit next to breakbeat country and western. Lounge classics merge with electro swing until you realise that this album really is sunshine on a disc. Many of the tracks are recognisable from TV and Film as Skeewiff have been the industry go-to guys for this style of music since the beginning of their career.

The album has been remastered and in most cases remixed by the Skeewiff boys themselves to provide fans and newcomers to their sound an incredible listening experience.

Notes on each track from Skeewiff below.
1/ Triumph Stag
Originally recorded for an album featuring us, Shawn Lee & Alan Hawkshaw, released on Alan's own label. This was revisited and extended a year later just in time for Private Funktion. Firm dance-floor favourite + The Hawk. Win

2/ Nitty Gritty
We have always been massive fans of Shirley Ellis, so this cover was a no brainer. Although we recorded it in 2001 under the name "Da Muttz", it wasn’t until the next mixes in 2003 that this track made it out onto vinyl to became one of our best selling EPs to date.

3/The Spider
Born from a love of Big Band, 60s Psychedelics and Breaks. What more can be said? The... Spider!!

4/ Little Spot of Soul
Pre-wobble wobble. Always loved a bit of wah wah action. This track even made its way onto a Volkswagen Polo Commercial in 2008.

5/ Scissors Paper Stone
As long time admirers of the grooviest of all mood music emporiums, Syd Dale's legendary Amphonic label, we were naturally thrilled to bits when we were given Carte Blanche to remix anything we wanted. Stephen Gray’s track was literally waiting to be re-wiffed!

6/ Shake What Your Mama Gave Ya
A fusion of all our musical loves.. A bit of Breaks, bit of hip hop, some lounge, a little bit of soul and of course a little sprinkling of silly. This track was originally written for konami's "Beatmania" - the original PlayStation DJ simulation game. We mixed a lot of the other tracks on that game for Konami too.. Regardless.. we were totally rubbish at the game. How does that work?

7/ Theme from Dave Allen
An all time favourite Hawk track, that we simply had to remix. We sent a copy to Sir Alan himself, which got his attention, and lead to the collaboration on "Triumph Stag".

8/I Got Soul
First released on a Pedigree Cuts Compilation, back in 2008, it wasn’t until 2012, that it received a full brass section courtesy of the Kensington Brass band and was re-released on the "Man Turns animal" album.

9/ Love Power
Originally a hit for the Sandpebbles in 1967, it was Dusty Springfield's cover from the following year that inspired us to revisit this feel-good soulful breakbeat monster.

10/ Soul Bossanova
We first did an edit of the original Quincy Jones Soul Bossanova to play at Nick Hollywood's Club Montepulciano. The reaction was so strong - we simply had to do a cover. Definitely the largest production we had done back then, with a brass section, numerous vocalists and percussionists.

11/ Brutha Noah (feat Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet)
First recorded this track in 2008 for the Remix Boutique compilation, and it was way ahead of its time. Brother Noah was later released on the Electro Swing & Gospel Breaks album, which won us the coveted Electro Swing producer of 2012 award.

12/Delta Dawn
Not wishing to leave any genre out, we play both kinds of music chez Skeewiff… Country AND Western.

13/ Man of Constant Sorrow
Inspired by the film and remixed forthwith, Man Of Constant Sorrow has proved to be our most popular re-vision to date.

14/Mexican Flyer
A collaboration between us and Incognito for the Arcade game "Space Channel 5".
Still remember Bluey's brief.. It has to be quite gritty, but clean and direct. Lots of fills, and make sure you want jump to your feet when you hear it. Check. Man’s a legend.

15/Miniskirt
Esquivel? Skeewiff? But of course. Groovy

16/ Coming Home Baby
An über mash of performances of the classic "Coming Home baby" featuring musicians separated by thousands of miles and decades of time. All brought together on a virtual digital stage. We merely organised the impossible gig
