Their was an air of expectation on the Sunday before the gates opened at Evolution 2012 with festival goers running to the main stage to get the best vantage points. The festival goers were dressed in summer outfits and some wore fancy dress fitting in with the festival theme, although the weather was not great, the atmosphere more than made up for this.

Walking  around the event it was great to see how well people got on with each other, just walking up to people they’ve never met before and started making conversation etc. but then again, that’s Geordies for you! Everyone seemed so pleased to be there and excited for what was about to happen during the event throughout the two days.

The festival opened with The Lake Poets, a local band whose melodic songs set the mood for the start of things to come. Lulu James then sang in a plastic bin bag but this girl had such a good voice I predict one to watch in the future

Everyone just seemed to do their own thing chilling to the music throughout the afternoon until Devlin came onto the stage, it felt like the whole of Newcastle had arrived everyone was singing along and having a great time. Devlin ended his set early which led to a rather long delay before Miles Kane came on stage. the former front man of The Rascals played his “mod” themed tracks from his album “Colour of the Trap” to an enthusiastic crowd.

Northeast band Maximo Park played tracks from their new album The National Health on their return to their home town. Along with a few classics from their back catalogue whilst donning ‘rock star’ dark sunglasses, but they can be forgiven as the were facing a bright setting sun a rare find this summer. The day ended with a storming performance from Dizzee Rascal with a dazzling conclusion of fire works, flames, explosions and all sorts of pyrotechnics, a rousing end to the day.

Monday seemed to attract more people mainly due to the fact that Rizzle Kicks, Noah and The Whale and Deadmau5 were on the main stage, plus the weather was even brighter.

Indie band Spector soon got the large crowd swaying and clapping along with their music, I have heard great things about this band but had not seen them before and I was not disappointed by their set, get to see them as soon as you can.  “Grey Shirt and Tie” is a stunning track which went down very well.

The atmosphere of the audience intensified when Rizzle Kicks came on, it seemed as though people came out of nowhere to see them, the t arena was much busier than I had seen the previous day. Rizzle Kicks really did kick!

Noah and the Whale seemed a strange choice of act between Rizzle Kicks and Deadmau5 but it worked well with their well written melodic tunes adding a different feel to the atmosphere, there were great renditions of Five Years Time and L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.

From the opening track Deadmau5 performance, Where My Keys  had the crowd bouncing and singing, gave  a fitting end to two days of partying, in Britain’s greatest party town.
