Aberjazz - Fishguard Jazz n Blues Festival 2017 Overview
The wonderful Aberjazz Festival celebrates its 14th year in 2017, and is held in various venues around Fishguard and the surrounding area. The festival celebrates great jazz and blues in this wonderfully atmospheric Pembrokeshire town in the Wild West of Wales.
Once again this year they have a fantastic line up which is a diverse blend of jazz, blues and everything in between. For example if you like a bit of Dixieland music mixed with a bit of r & b then don’t miss the legendary frontman from Manfred Mann, Paul Jones with Digby Fairweather’s Half Dozen; Alternatively, for a bit of nostalgia The Chris Ingham Quartet featuring the music of Hoagy Carmichael will delight; For a bit of zany comedy you must see Bob Kerr’s Whoopee Band but they are not just fooling, these guys are really brilliant jazz musicians mixing Bonzo Dog, Spike Jones and Pythonesque humour.
Elsewhere on the programme they have The Red Stripe Band playing in the Bay Hotel, Goodwick, which should allow plenty of room for dancing. All of this plus a full programme of events in the character venue of Ffwrn with too many acts to mention, plus the usual quality events in their intimate jazz cafe, Peppers, and events in TS Skirmisher and The Yacht Club - as well as many of the pubs in the twin towns and slightly further afield.
Expect a party atmosphere as the town and its environs comes to life with live music in the pubs, and busking in the streets. This is carnival weekend in Fishguard and Aberjazz keeps it going for five days.
Aberjazz is a community group run by volunteers who work hard to promote live music in the twin towns of Fishguard and Goodwick as well as the immediate surrounding area. It was originally formed to put on an annual Jazz festival which was changed to include blues and new music so as to widen the appeal. They now promote live music events throughout the year in the area through their club and other music events culminating in the Fishguard Jazz and Blues festival in August. Aberjazz is now well established as part of Pembrokeshire’s music scene.
